Do we have a Black Friday 2018 Deals thread

mk2 Sonys are amazing - Can't fault them. Friend of mine who's always been a huge Bose fan even bought a pair and relegated his Bose to backup.

I bought thre mk1 18 months ago and they are on mk3 within like 12 months and the difference I see is they added the air pressure thing and USB-C.

The cup is deeper so they're more comfortable, adds support for Google assistant, top of headband is padded so it doesn't bang against things. They charge a bit faster and the battery is supposed to be better. Refurb XM2s do appear on the somy centre website from time to time for £180 which is a good deal.

Any headphones experts?

Sony WH-1000xm2 @ £245 vs Sony WH-1000xm3 @ £330 vs Bose QC35 @ £280.

The cheaper Sony and the Bose are on black friday 'deals', the XM3's are the best headphones. Where would OCUK put its money?

I have the XM3s, I tried both back to back in a noisy Currys store and the Sonys had better noise cancelling. Bose were more comfortable but I found them quite flat sounding and not much scope for adjustment. The Sony app is quite good, plenty of adjustment in terms of how they sound. I find the touch controls so much easier to use compared to feeling around for buttons. Seems like a lot to spend on headphones but the battery lasts me over a week with noise cancelling on and they sound fantastic. They're my favourite thing when I have a bit of work I need to hammer out and I don't want any distractions.

The 4K firesticks are on a deal today, down to £34.99 so will pick one up to replace out first gen stick.

At that price it's not even worth going for the non-4K at £24.99.

Amazon are literally mugging me this week, and it's not even got to the main day yet.

Thanks all for the replies, I just picked up the Sony WH-1000XM2 from Amazon for £200 (new, not refurb or warehouse deal). Pretty good price!

When the XM2 is £200 I can’t really justify the £130 more for the slightly updated model or the £80 for the QC35.

Few bits on Amazon today...

Harmony Hub @ 49.99, RRP is 99.99 Camelcamelcamel shows recently available for 60-70

Harmony Hub Elite @ 119 RRP 279 looks like it's typically about 170.

Ring Doorbell Pro @ 139 RRP typically about 213 so thats a genuine saving.

Already got a ring doorbell myself, been thinking about harmony but not convinced yet. Just posting them up incase.anyone is on the lookout.

Was contemplating about the ring doorbell system but wasn’t sure how it works in nighttime?? I haven’t got any porch lights so the area is dark as it is. Would it still show the persons face??

The other concern I have is people trying to steal it or damage it?? How easy is it to take or damage??

I have no porch light either. I'll send you some night time footage if you want. Mines the mk1 so the current one will be better again.

It's screwed to the base with two small torx screws so not just any screwdriver will fit. But yes it can be taken. If you report it and get a police crime number ring will replace for free.

(I do not have shares in ring, I like their door bells but for what it's worth I think the stick up cams are ****)

Ahh thanks for the reply, that’s great that they will replace if it does get stolen.
I spoke to one of their reps a few weeks back but he didn’t mention anything about replacements if the doorbell gets stolen etc.

Cheers though, I’ll have a look and pick one up.

Yeah, it switches to IR.

It’s probably not that difficult to steal (1 tiny screw in the bottom) but you’d record them doing it. Edit - maybe it’s 2 screws

I’ve got a ring pro and I’d go for the Nest Hello instead for the 24/7 recording. The Ring only allows you to watch a clip that it creates when it detects motion.

Yeh the nest one was also another one I was looking at as well.

It’s a little bit more expensive but the software is a lot better. Something happened outside my house and the doorbell didn’t pick it up and so it didn’t record a clip which meant I couldn’t go through the video history and see it. The Nest records everything and just flags the timeline with any motion or person flags.

Good spot on harmony. Do I need the hub or hub and remote for £70 more.

The hub will work on it's own via a smartphone / PC app (which you will have to use to set it up anyway) and can be fully controlled that way, if you have Alexa or a google home it will also work via voice right down to changing channels on the google home after a recent update. However I would go for the remote as it makes it easier.

Some other things if you get the remote, it's fully compatible with Nest, Smartthings and hue and allows adjustment of these other products through the remotes touchscreen or even integration in to recipes.
