Do working toasters actually exist?

but freezing it strips moisture and the texture and flavour.

bagels are bread just in a slightly different form.

also where is bread 7p? last time i checked it was like £1.50 on average

Go to sainsburys at the end of the day and you will get the yellow sticker deals for bread.

I can't tell the difference between normal Hovis and one that was previously frozen. Maybe you can tell with a more premium bread? As long as you defrost with the toaster/microwave and not naturally (as that will make it go stale)

i've cut loaves of bread out of my diet, i still have wraps, pittas, bagels, etc occasionally but i was finding we were just binning half a loaf constantly. plus i wouldn't have the space for a loaf of bread in my freezer anyway. i find freezing stuff which isn't frozen to begin with does damage it and dry it out.

i have a stand mixer so we started making naan's from scratch and pizzas. i do have a loaf tin (i used it to make home made donner) so i might try home made bread at some point a small loaf so i don't need to bin or freeze it.

defrosting slices overnight in the fridge (covered/wrapped) works fine .. toasting from frozen doesn't work ime - heat penetration poor.

per earlier thread bread type makes a big difference, dense bread (not chorleywood), takes longer to toast and toasts more evenly ... and when you apply the butter and marmalade it doesn't rip into the bread - that's what toast is for ! (and beans/chees maybe cheese or beans)

...warm up split croissants in ours too - Tefal

I need a new toaster kettle combo for our new kitchen was thinking duralit architect range but now I'm in a pickle with what I want reading this thread

Top toasting tip, always preheat the toaster.
Most of the issues come from the fact the toaster is cold..
So just pop it on for a quick heat up before you start, it fixes most of the issues, poor consistency (the element is probably getting hotter in some places than others far more quickly, easy to check if you pop it on with no bread in, on mine its really clear some areas are glowing red hot waaay before others.
First slices are ok or undercooked then following slices are overcooked or right if the first were undercooked, perfect example of how the lack of pre heating means the lack of consistency from the first round to the later rounds, now the toaster is hot it cooks faster.

If your slices are too big, very common problem, just cut them in half. Yes it reduces your capacity but it means far better toast as instead of hanging out or being forced in, you have loads of space to get it in right :)

try it, you will be really surprised the simple difference pre heating makes, if you think about it most cooking specifies pre heat oven, pre heat grill etc :)

I think you can bring a glass furnace up to heat in less than a week.

if you have a pre EU regulations toaster it is near instant on (tefal thick n thin) versus the philips or whatever relations have that is fully rosey only after a minute.

I looked at a video of one of the transparent sidewall variety, that is even more disasterous, using a glass encased cyclinder element... I couldn't see a halogen one, which could, also, be fast.
