Do you flash, or expect to be flashed in warning of mobile speed cameras?

yes I flash, but no I don't expect people to flash. Would be nice if all road users came together and pulled in the right direction - but obviously not going to happen.

Just to move the discussion on a bit, would you mind saying if you are over or under say 30 years of age? You wouldn't pro actively warn of a speed trap, but what would you do if you , assuming you frequent pubs, saw someone about to drive away who you had seen drinking say 4 or 5 pints? Ignore it? Have a discreet word before they drove off, risking a confrontation? Report them? What if it was someone you knew locally? A friend or relative? Would that matter?

I'm well over 30 :)

I wouldn't risk a personal confrontation with a stranger, but would bring it to the attention of staff/landlord, and leave it to them to do the right thing. If it were family or friends I'd probably take their keys and order a taxi, even if I had to pay for it myself. I would like to think that I'd report anyone to the police if those efforts failed and they were determined to drive over the limit, but thankfully I've never had to make that call.

How do you update waze while still driving? :p

Having Googled Waze I see it's as I suspected and an "app" for a modern phone. As my phone is virtually of the paraffin and wick variety, dog chewed and having been dropped in the cattle's water trough several times, without any connectivity to the internet, I am reliant on miscreants flashing me or studiously observing speed limits! Maybe I should drag myself kicking and screaming into the "app" age :)

I tend to flash 3-4 times when letting people out at junctions. Once or twice and you risk them missing it with a blink/checking the other side and then I waste both time and money by slowing down only for them not to pull out and miss their chance.

These days I don't expect anyone to flash, it's just a nicety if they do.. I certainly wouldn't blame them for not flashing if I was speeding..

In my 'yoof' I did once put up a sign 300 yards before a very obvious 'flash for cash' mobile speed camera setup just to make money (no hazards, people naturally going a little over the speed limit with it being a steep hill).. it was funny watching the quizzical look on the officers faces when everyone was coming through bang on the speed limit..

They then moved further up to a spot that actually had a hazard that really was a place anyone caught thoroughly deserved it, but oddly they didn't really catch anyone, they never did come back.

Yes and no.

PC Antony Gray, of the road policing unit, said: “People who flash their headlights at other cars to warn them that there are police officers nearby may think they are doing someone a favour but potentially they are putting lives at risk.

“Flashing your lights at someone may make them slow down for just a second, but it will not make them change their habits in the long run.

Never read such a load of old crap in my life. By saying the above he's assuming that you're actually flashing someone who is speeding - which is not always the case. Also if the flash causes them to slow down that's a win win right?

Of course, it's not such a win if all you care about is revenue generation, which sadly is the state of most police forces these days.

police dont earn anything from speeders afaik.

I understood Flash For Cash refers to those motorists who "flash to let you in" at a turning or something, but then continue on and crash into you on purpose, knowing the road laws favour them and allow them to claim off you...?

Many more like that. I assume therefore that they get some money out of it...

express is a far from a decent newspaper ;)
Neither are The Guardian, Telegraph, Times, Daily Fail, Sun, Independent or any other you'd care to name as a decent or reliable source either, I expect.... and yet there are sources citing officials who've openly admitted how much they're making from speed cameras.
I just can't be ***** to google them all and repost everything here. :)

I don't and wouldn't expect others to. If you're justifying the speed by claims of good visibility, quiet roads, being a great driver etc. then as I see it, you should be able to spot it in plenty of time without my help :p

If you can't then maybe you need to reconsider how appropriate your speed actually was.

I got caught once because my observation wasn't as good as I thought it was at the time, taught me a lesson in how good a driver I wasn't :p
