Doctor Who

Have you never watched a series with Tom Baker or Jon Pertwee they kick all the new one to the kerb

Both were good, but I think the preference for which Doctor often depends on what stories you like, and when you first watched it.

I'm liking Capaldi as the Doctor, even if I think a lot of the stories are relatively weak and could do with being longer, but like some of the stories from the Baker era a lot more (but that may be partly because of the age I was when I watched them).

Isn't there some saying about you can tell a Doctor Who fan's age by their favourite doctor?

Did I imagine it, or did the Generals armour regenerate with breast shapes in the breastplate? I always thought that only the flesh and bone regenerated, not the clothing as well.

In the previous episode, the confession dial was transported to Gallifrey where the Doctor spent 4.5 billion years breaking through the harder than diamond stuff and tracking his progress by looking at the stars.

The question is, where were the Time Lords during all this? If Gallifrey was going through time like normal then surely in 4.5 billion years it would be very different and none of the structures in tact?

Ah well, for me, its been the worst of the new Doctor Who series. Sunglasses and a guitar, story lines that send me asleep and the end of Clara (but not) as a series finale.

And really why bring Gallifrey in only to criminally under-use it?

Worst series? I assume you have forgotten about the last series. ;) Not that I blame you. :p

Sunglasses and guitar were annoying, but this series has not been the worst of new Doctor Who; not by a long chalk. Not in my opinion at least. This series was easily better than Capaldi's first. No Danny Pink, no annoying kids and no Missy beyond the first two episodes, helped immensely. After the first three episodes, I didn't think a great deal of what I'd seen, but it picked up after that and there were some decent episodes.

I don't think we're going to get a consistently good Doctor Who programme.

Must admit, the sunglasses and guitar thing was a low par, along with giving a complete novice and someone who manages to live to the end of time a Tardis.... here come female spin off Dr Who series......

The other half and I just completed a Doctor Who marathon and I've got to say we really enjoyed the last few episodes.
I really enjoyed the series finale but I think Clara should have been killed off in the Raven episode with the Doctor taking revenge on Ishilda by taking that little repair chip out of her as an act of revenge and putting it in Clara. I really hate the "Me" character.
I also don't get the whole "Clara death is a permanent fixture in time and bringing her back will fracture time". If that's the case then how the hell did an entire planet along with billions of it's inhabitants not fracture time?!
Anyway after constantly moaning about Clara and how I despise her I'm actually kinda sad now that she's left as I really enjoyed the Matt Smith era and it feels like the final link to that era is now broken. I'm sure the tight sweater had a lot to do with it as well.

I don't think the implication is that Galifrey survived to the end of the universe, more that it was moved there at some point to hide it.

Anyway, sunglasses, no, but the guitar? Hell yes.

If it was moved there, then where was the Confession Dial the whole time the Doctor was in it? He was looking up at the stars and figured out that time was passing but he wasn't time travelling, so it must have been in a fixed location, right?

Meh, another second half where any potential the first half had was ****ed away. While I appreciate nods to old episodes and characters stuffing your episode with them in lieu of telling a decent story is a bit much.

Objectively this was still probably better than last season, it just feel worse because we kept getting great set ups and lackluster resolutions.

Spot on. Sadly, this week's season finale was poor. It had moments of greatness imo though, basically the first two thirds were solid. It then utterly fell apart. Felt like they were too afraid to make the ending even remotely dark or morbid so opted for the happy place for all concerned which was a truly shameful conceit.

I personally don't think we will see a spin off as a result of this. It would be too dire even for the BBC to consider. Think it was just meant to act as a means of saying "Clara is ok... all is well". Needs to be dropped line a stone, the whole premise.

Pretty much. :)

As for the verdict on the new Doctor: I don't think Capaldi is doing a bad job at all but its clear the writers/producer are tired and either need a break, or the show does. New Who has been going for 10 years now thats a fantastic achievement. Now go take a rest and come back when you've some fresh ideas and new blood to bring to it.

Sadly I expect it'll be treated as a cash cow by the Beeb and milked until it has no more to give and be uncermoniously dumped like toxic waste just like every other show by every other network (Enterprise, anyone?)

Me. Thought it was excellent. Not like the previous ten odd Xmas specials of crapness. That's the River Song story arc finally tied up. Once again it seemed right with Capaldi. Tennant and Smith were too young for Song.
