Doctor Who

Since the reboot I've been fully engaged with the show and quite desperate to watch the next episode throughout every season. However, this last season I've completely drifted and just wasn't too bothered about catching up.

I'm stunned at how many here are finally approving of the show so it's a shame to see it cut short after its critics finally seemed pleased. Personally I'm glad to hear about the change, it started to become a lot more serious and that's not really why I watch it even though I also had wished for an older doctor with a more serious tone.

Clara was also grating on me for being yet another bossy female companion who takes her dominance so far you'd think she was the lead. Surly it's more sexist to have a mid twenties human earth-bound girl portrayed as intellectually superior to a four hundred year old male time lord who spends every day saving people out of complex situations throughout the universe. Yet another casualty to the feminist trend, lets just go full boar and have a female doctor with a bumbling male companion.

She looks, or has a bit of an Ace vibe about her. I would love it if they picked someone from the 80/90s rather than a contemporary companion. Little bit of nostalgia thrown in.

In that trailer, she looks like the kid who sat in the classroom with their miuth hanging half open, leaning forward trying to figure out the bit from ten minutes ago.
Let us see how she develops, she certainly doesn't appear to be there to represent eye candy.

No surprise really to see that Capaldi has decided to quit as Dr Who. Given the decline of the shows quality I would say now is the time to put it to rest for several years before trying again, but they probably wont, they will probably opt for something groundbreaking this time like a female Dr.

There has been a desire from many within the production to introduce a female doctor for a long time. It would be different, not groundbreaking.
My biggest annoyance with Dr. Who is that I'm never going to get to see Paterson Joseph take the role. He was all lined up when Tennant eventually got the gig.
Still say he would have made an excellent Doctor.

I agree with the sentiment it needs to take a break for a few years the standard has not been great, Uber Doctor can fix everything with hugs and kisses it's been tedious watching the lack of peril time and again.

I have every confidence that we will get a right on politically correct Doctor next time "down with the patriarchy".

I'm still annoyed that Paul McGann got the part for that terrible Americanised TV film. I want him as The Doctor for longer than just one rubbish TV film and a mini episode for the anniversary. Alas it cannot be. :(

If I'm honest I don't think that "Dr Who" as a franchise can make it's mind up what it wants to be any more. (not sure it ever did) Torchwood had a far better feel to it in that it's themes were more "adult" and it was far less of pantomime.

The first few stories following the Eccleston/Piper re-brand where quite dark in content. It now feels more akin to Faulty Towers than the X-files, it's borderline slapstick, with folk spending 90% of each episode running up and down the same alley/corridor. Maybe I'm just too old to watch it and "get it" anymore. Perhaps I want it to be more grown up, but it's just a kids program. But kids have moved on from hiding behind the sofa and being scared of the bubble-wrap monster haven't they? (It's behind you!!!)

Thank God capaldi is going. Least favourite doctor since the reboot to the point I've stopped watching.

Hopefully they get the correct person for the role. To be fair it's the scripts and show direction that really needs the work.

I agree on a break prior to bringing it back, all the episodes feel very samey without an overall arch to them

I would agree the writing is at fault, agree on the overwhelming female lead and the general direction the show took since Tennet left. Of course there has been a few gems.

I really enjoyed episodes with Missy in.
