Doctor Who

Not sure her quitting will save the show at this point. Not unless the writers go too. Its been heading towards cancellation for years.
 
No agenda. People thinking there is agenda or woke are just the worst kind of people I watch for a story and characters. I don't care about race or gender or any of that pish. Doctor Who has always featured topics but its due to the Internet generation moaning that people seems to have a problem with it.

I still prefer Classic Who over Nu Who mind you.
 
There will still be plenty of people who enjoy the show, they have just made its appear far more niche than ever before. It now appeals mainly to children and teenagers who who equate politics to quality in shows. It was previously enjoyed by every age range up to a point and they have just narrowed it.

I just wonder how many viewers are watching it out of a perverse pleasure in seeing how **** it has become and the vague hope that it improves. That certainly covers me over the past few years.

Who knows.When you change a show you will always appeal to a different demographic and alienate some of your original fans.

And this is why people hate woke politics. Because whenever you deal with same sex relationships, gender politics, environmentalism, sexism etc you cannot criticise it or you are "the worst kind of people" to use your words. It couldn't possibly be the crap plots, awful "fam", lack of any threat from the Doctor, politics handled with all the grace and wit of a rhino. No it has to be people who simply don't want to see that sort of thing.

"The internet" generation has been around for a long time. I'm mid thirties and I wasn't young when doctor who started again. When the people arguing against you explain why they don't like the show and all you have to counter is attacking them instead of defending the show or countering their points perhaps you need to have a rethink.

Perhaps you should go and watch some shows that deal with these issues well and don't make them the entire point of the story. Instead of "here is a love story between two people who happen to be gay" we get "this is 2 gay people and that is the main point of the story, look they are gay deal with it".

Its woke AF. Just like the BBC in general now. Its why people are cancelling the licence in huge numbers.

where do you go for media though - not netflix ? Bridgerton(the current controversial people of colour), the crown, ....much of that media become counter-productive in entranching bigotry, maybe because they all have pandying to the usa market in mind, but, they haven't learned the lesson from brookside/eastenders/corry ...
 
the vocal people huh, who's more vocal these days with all the shouting of racism, sexism, wage gaps etc. All fake problems brought to the masses which has created the divide, if it was all left alone it wouldn't be a problem. there will always be opposing opinions with everything, just the people in the wrong cry louder and make it worse.
 
The interesting question is who (which demographic) they get to play The Doctor next? Considering that viewers and ratings have collapsed with the first female lead (whether or not that's anything to do with her being a female).

1) Kill the show now and revive it in the future - They can't do this because a number of people would say a woman driver crashed the car and shout "get woke, go broke".
1) Revert back to a traditional white male - They can't do this. It would be admitting defeat and pandering to the few people who did genuinely stop watching due to the gender change.
2) Another woman - They can't do this because they would still have a woman playing the role when it's inevitably cancelled after a season of the next Doctor.
4) Get a black/asian male actor to play the part - This would continue the diversity theme and if the series still fails then no single demographic could be pointed at.

I think option 4 is the only route they can go now.

But regardless, it's the writing which need to change. That's the real cause of the problem.


EDIT: Also kill off the Daleks for good please.
 
Option 4 100% Hopefully not a black woman though because that will be even worse than now. Not racist. Just that it would be too much aimed at wokeness, they wouldn't just be able to write good stories and let an actor bring it to life, they would have to make it political.

I think they should put it on Ice tbh. Until they get some good writers and know where its going. Is it for kids or young adults? Stick to something. Kill all the orchestra.
