Doctor Who

No agenda. People thinking there is agenda or woke are just the worst kind of people I watch for a story and characters. I don't care about race or gender or any of that pish. Doctor Who has always featured topics but its due to the Internet generation moaning that people seems to have a problem with it.

I still prefer Classic Who over Nu Who mind you.

Which classic Who though? Tom Baker? Jon Pertwee? Bill Hartnell? Theres so many of them. I am or was a selective fan theres lots I've enjoyed but theres also vast amounts I have no interest in the original pilot episode is good the remade one that got broadcast I don't like I don't really like any of Troughton but like most of Pertwee, theres a good deal of Tom Baker thats very good as well as an awful lot of tiresome filler. Nu Who I like all of Ecclestone and almost all of Tennent and the odd bit of Matt Smith. And thats about it really.

I like most of the classic Doctor. I grew up with Davison, Colin Baker and McCoy. But later in life I watched all of the first 4 doctors. I used to dislike Pertwee and Troughton. However now that I'm older I've become a bigger fan of them. Have most of the older one on DVD. It's hard to pick a favourite as they all have great likeable features and companions.

Tom Baker is still my favourite, followed by Pertwee and Tennant, then Smith. Capaldi had potential but the show was already on the decline by then in terms of writing and he couldnt rescue it. The worst Doctors imo are McCoy and Whittaker, not so much their fault as the fault of the state of the show during their eras.

McCoy was a great Doctor for my, one of my best. He did halesowen great stories and was very mysterious. But at the same time there was a few duff stories especially as the budget got slashed.

My first Doctor was Pertwee. Watching older series I can appreciate Hartnell and Troughton too. But I was very young at the time and my favourite is Tom Baker, who I consider "my" Doctor. Peter Davidson was OK after Tom Baker left but I was getting a bit older so didn't watch too much more. From what I've seen of Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy I didn't like to comedic way that their characters went and so I don't like those Doctors. But that may also be my age at the time; too old to enjoy a kids programme and too young to enjoy it as an adult. So from the original series Tom Baker is a stand out favourite for me and Pertwee a second place for the childhood memories and hiding behind the sofa moments.

Then we come on to the new series. I've liked most of the actors except Jodie Whittaker. I stopped watching her incarnation after a couple of episodes although that's just as much to do with the writing as it is with her portrayal. I thought Eccleston was good, Tennant was excellent and rivals Tom Baker for me. Surprisingly Matt Smith was great too and I thought Capaldi's Doctor was also a strong contender just marred by poor writing. I think he could have been a great incarnation if the writing was better.

So overall for me it still has to be Tom Baker due to my childhood. But Tennant, Matt Smith and Capaldi not far behind.

Whittaker gets a big nope from me.

I agree about McCoy and Whittaker. I consider these two very similar in terms of where Dr Who was/is at the time of their tenures.

Couldn't bare watching much of that video but he seems to blame Jodie then the writers and then the BBC before doing a 180 and starting all over again by blaming Jodie.

Does he just talk for the sake of talking?

Hes abrasive but he usually makes good points.

He blames the writers first and foremost but also thinks that Jodie is a rubbish Doctor, which she is. Whether that is directing or her is the question. As he touched on in the video, it becomes harder to make the case that her poor portrayal is not her fault when you read around the show and her thoughts on it.

Its top to bottom a mess at the moment honestly. Casting, writing and directing is all poor.

I always liked Baker and McCoy I felt their Doctors were just a little more sinister and they let their comapnions join them but there was very real risk and the companions weren't their wards to be protected as much a fellow travellers at times. Remembrance of the Daleks and Genesis of the Daleks are 2 of my most abiding memories of DrWho. Recently nothing since the Weeping Angels (right name) or the Capadli dungeon epsiode have got anywhere close. Tennant had a very good stint mind you.

Watched RotD a few months ago, Jeffrey from Fresh Prince popped up in one of the episodes. Also remember it as a kid and ******* myself when I realised Daleks could now climb stairs

I always preferred the multiple episode stories but in the modern age, with so much media to consume, it just wouldn't work as well now.

+1 You may argue about his delivery or style, but he not usually wrong.

depends on what your views are, i find he often wrong, he also got boring, when he first started he was at leased entertaining. his shows now follows the same old pattern

I mean how boring must life be if all you do is slate every show and movie.
He doesn't slate everything. Have you watched his "The Drinker Recommends" series? I pretty much know if he recommends it then I'll either love the film or I've already watched it and loved it.

You should check out his "Production Hell" and "Drinker Fixes" series. The latter is particularly good, as he actually suggests improvements to the films he's criticizing within the framework of the existing movie. He knows about storytelling, which is more than can be said for those producing the cack we're seeing time and time again from Holllywood.

Fault is entirely at the poor writing and directing.

Matt smith was a relatively unknown actor at the time when he step up. Doctor who made him great. I remember the first couple of episodes took a little adjustment. The story and the directing were bang on that’s why I kept watching it. And eventually Matt made the doctor his.

If the basics are all wrong no matter how good an actor, you can’t plaster it over.

I hope BBC cancels Dr Who and come back in a few years time with fresh ideas and talents. Actual talents.
