Doctor Who

The interesting question is who (which demographic) they get to play The Doctor next? Considering that viewers and ratings have collapsed with the first female lead (whether or not that's anything to do with her being a female).

1) Kill the show now and revive it in the future - They can't do this because a number of people would say a woman driver crashed the car and shout "get woke, go broke".
1) Revert back to a traditional white male - They can't do this. It would be admitting defeat and pandering to the few people who did genuinely stop watching due to the gender change.
2) Another woman - They can't do this because they would still have a woman playing the role when it's inevitably cancelled after a season of the next Doctor.
4) Get a black/asian male actor to play the part - This would continue the diversity theme and if the series still fails then no single demographic could be pointed at.

I think option 4 is the only route they can go now.

But regardless, it's the writing which need to change. That's the real cause of the problem.

EDIT: Also kill off the Daleks for good please.
Aaaannnnd, I called it right in January 2021 :)

Very predictable.

While I don't like the idea of getting a big name to play the doctor, after Jodie's historically low ratings they needed something with pull to get people to tune back into the show and I don't think Ncuti Gatwa is it. Now if ivrytwr3 is right and the guy can act, this is at least a step in the right direction. But if you are one of the 9 million people that stop watching from Jodie's first episode what does this do to pull you back in?

I'm one of those. I will adopt a strategy of wait and see what others say about his first few episodes before I risk any of my own time watching it. I couldn't care less what his skin colour is though. It's just that the BBC wasted my time with Jodie so I will only watch it if it seems worth bothering.

Only seen him in sex education.

Let's hope he has decent scripts and gets to play a hardcore Christopher Eccelston Dr who is just a bit mean.

Annnnnnd that's me finally done with the show :(

Please let me know if this decent, but it seems that this is a another tick box actor rather than the best person for the job. Don't get me wrong Ncuti Gatwa is fantastic in Sex Education and is a very good actor. However, there were many people that would be better as the new Doctor :(
Why must it be a tick box role? I'm sure RTD has genuinely picked the best actor for the role and will fit in with where he wants to take the show next.

Give it a chance.

The older I get, the more convinced I am that there are very few "good" actors about. The rest of them just play a version of themselves and play the same character every time. Maybe its just massive amounts of typecasting but there aren't that many actors that play really different characters throughout their careers.

People hate people being given opportunities. They have probably never seen him act.
well I've just watched the first and last piece of sex education I'll ever watch , to see - cringeworthy bs for teenagers, but ok that's the new dr who demographic

For example he's got a similar amount of experience in TV as Matt Smith had, and has already won a couple of awards for his acting.
No offence toSmith, but I don't believe he had even been nominated for any when he first took the role on and people seem to think he did a good job of playing the part.
matt smith had been in the street - enough said - jimmy Mcgovern
