Doctor Who

Well..Save me the effort. How was it? was the story coherent? did it have a lot of suitably stupid names dreamt up by RTD? Was Mrs. Brian may in it, and indeed, was it revealed who Mrs. Dirty den actually is? Are there any compelling reasons for me to check out...The show?
.... pass. I watched it or rather I sat through it, G&S on Boxing Day and W&G had more than double the viewers probably says it all I imagine.

It says they have a wider appeal and a long awaited return to screens. With G&S being the first in a decade to get that many viewers as well as it being the last ever episode of the show. Most other shows were 2-5 million.

It took me a minute there for it occur to me that I was being dragged kicking and screaming into thinking about gavin and stacey again. :D

Watched this and thought it wasn't the worst Christmas episode they've ever done for Doctor Who. At least there was a subtle nod to it being Christmas. I don't hold out much hope though of RTD fixing the issues with Who. Didn't realise Moffat was the writer of this episode. Two former showrunners teaming up for this episode?!

Moffat also wrote Boom from last season.

The overly contrarian positive posters about any negative post pmsl. Stop trolling ad if you've nothing better to do.

On topic. I used to love Doctor Who but as with everything I've out grown it and it's not for me anymore. I'm sad to say.

Yes, I used to like it, but to me, these days, the stories are just too far out there. Most of the time I keep asking myself "wth did I just watch?".

Just watched - first 5mins, shoe horning their LGBTQ+ agenda and men are bad and ofc Ncuti crying again. Also, thankfully Joy is not the new companion.

But a decent Xmas Doctor Who story.

I rate Ncuti as an actor and he has had a few good moments as the Doctor, but i hope this is true. Doctor Who has become a joke with it's wokeness - sack them all, bury it for a few years and reboot back to the days of Eccleston, Tennant and Smith.

It's not him that's the problem, it's the writer.

I think the real problem with the BBC, and Disney for that matter, is they have always carried a message for kids and the pair of them have taken up messages that adults just don't want their kids to be confronted with. Torchwood was as bent as a nine-bob-note and no one cared, but that was for adults.

I’ve been saying that since the Eccleston years. Russell T Davies is crap. I really don’t get the adoration for him nor why he was chosen to write the bulk of Dr Who. Every single Dr Who actor/ actress is a genuinely brilliant actor and every single one was completely wasted on Dr Who

It has nothing to do with any kids. There are multiple writers with Russell being one of the main ones as he is the showrunner.

It's the fully grown adult male 'fans' that are whining and moaning about the show being 'woke' and also also that the show 'died' in 2017 when Capaldi died. No one else has issues with the show.

Yet the last BBC report at the end of that year still has the show in its top 6 most profitable IPs. Which either means the Beeb hardly make any money or the show really ain't doing as bad as some 'fans' wish it was.

Well, it's the parents who have been complaining, not the kids. But maybe that's the press exaggerating? I don't know. The fans always complain, but they still watch the show.

It's the adults watching and complaining. It has nothing to do with kids. They don't care about anything but watching TV. They just happily watch the show.

Doctor Who can't survive on kids only audience numbers, it has to attract adults otherwise it's not commercially viable. I gave up watching halfway through Jodie's first season, not because it was specifically woke but because it was crap. But I suspect the reason it was crap because the writers cared more about their politics than they did about good stories. I mean since the Revival how many episodes have been as good a Blink and how many of those good episodes have their been recently? The last truly excellent episode I can remember was Heaven Sent, although in fairness I only managed another season and a half before binning it.

It's not 'surviving' or nearly dying. Doctor Who is still one of the BBCs six most profitable IPs. So it's clearly doing well still. Overnight ratings are not as big of a thing with modern TV due to the way content can now be accessed and consumed weeks or months after something airs.
