Doctor Who

Yet the last BBC report at the end of that year still has the show in its top 6 most profitable IPs. Which either means the Beeb hardly make any money or the show really ain't doing as bad as some 'fans' wish it was.
Sounds rather like Disney claiming that The Acolyte was their 2nd most successful show using total minutes watched as a metric.

There’s a quote about “Lies, damned lies and statistics.” that comes to mind.

Its good for making headlines but short on details, does that include all the money Disney put into who? Do we know how this compare in the pre mouse days?

Nope, can't watch that guy. Can't even pronounce Ncuti correctly and has lots of Trump and other right wing supporting videos. Hard to take anything he says seriously..

Hard pass.

I don't even need to watch that vid to know it's another rage watcher like critical drinker and the like.

Don't go down the right-wing rabbit hole. They are the gateway drug for so many guys and why we have an incel problem.

Saying that, the current writing on Dr Who does indeed suck and it needs a decade of rest like top gear.

It's not 'surviving' or nearly dying. Doctor Who is still one of the BBCs six most profitable IPs. So it's clearly doing well still. Overnight ratings are not as big of a thing with modern TV due to the way content can now be accessed and consumed weeks or months after something airs.

It's on it's **** and has been for years, you're simply deluding yourself. I'll put it to you this way, when Doctor Who was revived and was a huge success with succesive Doctors it was spoken of everywhere as the massive success it was and garnerd critical acclaim from the wider madia and fans, now no-one is calling it a success except the BBC and Whovian stans , why is that? - Just think about why these conversations are even being had, and why the BBC is clearly thinking about canning it. It doesn't make sense, if it was still succesful.

ROP never a success, only Amazon and ROP stans claimed otherwise, even the legacy media fell into line in the end when their position of supporting it and spinning the numbers became untentable. So the conversation has been about it being a massive failure, people who don't like the show couldn't wish that conversation into being, it happened organically because the reception and ratings were catastrophic.

That these conversation are being had about Doctor Who is absolute concrete evidence that the show is bad (individual subjectivity notwithstanding), and has fallen off a cliff in recent years.

Oh no... ...

Lol

Star trek and Dr who. 2 of my favourite childhood TV shows.
Both recently destroyed to the point I stopped caring.

I'll be back in 5 years if that happens!

Dr Who Always sucked tho

Personally the Christopher Eccleston run was the only set I watched consistently. I never liked David Tennant and the only actor since then that might of brought be back, had my viewing habits not changed as a result of other streaming services, might of been Capaldi.

Tennant was great because he was so different... but he was also crap because he was so different.
Matt Smith really did a grand job of being an old soul behind young eyes and even managed to capture certain facial expressions of the classic Doctors.
Capaldi was an awesome actor and one of my favourites, but never given any good plot. Same for Whittaker.

Generally though, the title character of the very programme you're watching has been given a back seat to his/her assistants, to the point where they're now "companions" and the stories are all about them.
That's why it's tanking.

I just like to watch the show to moan about it, then come on here to type in the thread about why it's junk and how I only watch in case it gets better. For some reason I haven't caught on that I've outgrown it but I absolutely adore moaning.

If only that were true. I can happily rewatch most of classic who, and most of new who up to the Capaldi era.
It's not that I've outgrown it at all, but apparently it's outgrown it's need for original fans in pursuit of "the message" or whatever these days

As above, i grew up with the original Doctors and it was mind blowing to me - sci fi has always been a favourite genre for me. When NuWho came back, Eccleston, Tennant and shaky start but awesome Matt Smith, those feelings came back and this time i was able to share it with my kids. We were glued to the TV and was something we could watch as family.

Then the rubbish stories/scripts and full on wokeness became the norm and the kids lost interest :( The wifey and i have still pushed through and continue to watch it - it has its moments and i don't want to give up on something i have loved since i was a kid - but i think we are a glutton for punishment now wokeness/inclusiveness is its main agenda over story.

I thought tennant was the best doctor. The whole Rose thing was awesome, and even catherine tate somehow worked incredibly well. Smith I could watch but didn't get the same feeling, but again had some really good companions. Whittaker was an awful choice, I'm sure she is a fine actor, and I hope my feeling isn't simply because she is female, I' sure there are loads of female actors who could have come and gave it gravitas, but that accent for one just put me right off. Having not seen her prior to DrWho, I genuinely thought when she first regenerated they were making a funny that her voice hadn't quite finished regenerating...but sadly no.

The new guy just doesn't do it for me at all. I hope I'm not a fuddy duddy, and I know I'm not a prune or anti-woke, but personal, for me, it's just wrong.
