Dam. I think I kinda see your point now but I'm not sure. I still don't and won't agree that 0.9r = 1 though because it isn't.

And btw, I just noticed that this entire debate (including the other thread) has totalled 700 + replies! That's a lot in only 2 days. :eek:

Certain concepts such as infinity cannot be worked with directly in the real world.

exactly there for its flawed and hence 0.9r does not = 1 anywhere else aprt from in maths.

I think it's like physics? You have to take for granted that things are set values and so on. Not sure what the techinical term for it all would be :(

There's a tiny tiny discrepency about the possible things in physics and maths, because the universe is quantised. However, the difference is somewhere around the 100th decimal place. Given that physical impossibilites with measuring things this is irrelevant anyway. Maths works in the real word, because any problem you might have with "But what happened 100 billion 9's down the line?" is fuzzed over by the uncertainness that exists in the universe. Even the universe doesn't know whats going on down by the 100 billionth digit.

and have you been reading all my post that says maths is flawed, and that in reallity o.9r isnt 1.


the question 0.9r = 1 is not true cos the real world tells us so.
However a flawed model of are universe which is maths tells us it does infact =1 but because we no it doesnt how can you possibly say that 0.9r actrally = 1.

I was trying to possibly show how 0.9r can not be equal to 1. As when they are divided, different outcomes occur.

1/2 = 0.5

0.9r/2 = 0.49r?

Yes, im way out of my league I know. No harm in trying to push things though, the more thought you put into something, the more you will remember it or understand it.
