Honestly I'm just not sure what he is trying to do.

Spends almost £40m on Mata only to play him out of position
Ignores Kagawa
Leaves Zaha on loan
Lets Vidic announce he is leaving mid season and to who
Publicly admonishes players
Plays Cleverley
Fails to manage Van Persie's fitness
One dimensional tactics

As Einstein said, the definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over again and expect different results. Please god don't let him say byline again!

What about "unlucky"? Thats his favouirite excuse these days lol. The truth is u make your own luck in sport yet he cant see that.

Luck doesn't matter when you're already 2-0 down lol

Rafael should've been off what, 30 minutes into the game? United got lucky on Sunday, another three pens could/should have been awarded against them.

I'm not talking about the game in general. Liverpool deserved their victory. Just that Vidic was 'unlucky' to get sent off

Stupid challenge? Tell that to your defenders, he was last man, he had no option but to go for it. You'd never tell your players not to go for that tackle. How ridiculous!

Yes, it was stupid. He's allowed Sturridge to back him into the box (Sturridge picked the ball up not far from the half way line) and then dived into a challenge that he couldn't win when Sturridge has actually knocked the ball wide. It was a desperate, stupid challenge that he didn't need to make.

And keeping this thread on topic, the look on Moyes' face when that pen was given summed Utd up right now. Moyes and Utd are shot to bits and imo Moyes' future rest on these next 3 games.

Until now, although it's been a disastrous season, Utd have had something to hang on to whether that be their CL run or the small hope of getting into the top 4. All that could be over within 10 days coupled with potentially losing to their 2 biggest rivals at home. Even if Utd ultimately go out of the CL, they've got to go down fighting and then pick something up from City. If they don't, I can't see how Moyes will be able to lift the players for the remaining games and if they end the season on such a low, it could have huge effects on this summer.

It all comes down to sincerity really, Vidic doesn't know he's not going to get the ball when he goes for it, Vidic would have assumed Sturrdge was going to shoot. He's well in his rights to go for it. As it turned out, Sturridge's touch was poor meaning it went further out right and he shouldn't of conned the ref you know. Its poor, too much conning in the game. Its horrid! i hate it!

I've read quite a lot of criticism of Moyes for that change but I'm not too sure why. They were 3-0 with 5-10 minutes to go with a player sent off and were getting cut open at will. If Ferdinand doesn't come on, that game finishes 5 or 6-0.

Had it been 1-0 then fair enough but there was no coming back and I bet you there's a fair few Utd fans that are relieved it only ended up at 3-0 because it could and probably should have been a lot more.

edit: disagree Trusty. Sturridge has taken a dive but Vidic gave him the opportunity. Vidic got desperate and rather than stay on his feet he just had a go. He's only got himself to blame.

Its the refereeing though, that's why there is always going to be a grey area in football, the players don't help..it's bad for the game. If it was like Rugby, where they got a few ex pro's in a booth, we wouldn't have this conundrum have as much..saying Vidic is giving the ref the opportunity to give a pen is cop out tbh, its takes away from the essence of actual football. As a coach, you can't tell your defender not to defend, you know..

As I just wrote in the spoilers thread, supposedly by the letter of the law the Sturridge penalty was the correct call regardless of their being no contact.

Vidic is an experienced defender, he shouldn't have got himself in that position to begin with and had to make a desperate attempt to win the ball. He's not unlucky. He's lucky that Sturridge's dive has taken the focus off his terrible piece of defending.

Anyway, this thread really needs to stick to discussing whether David Moyes should be Utd manager.

What has giving someone an opportunity to throw themselves to the ground have to do with anything? Are you justifying diving?

The dive certainly wasn't a pivotal moment in the game, we (United) were well and truly beat across all areas of the pitch, but there's only one guilty party here and that's Sturridge.

Do you also believe that Usan only had himself to blame for getting sent off at the '02 world cup, because his pass to Rivaldo could have been more gentle? No contact = no reason to go down, unless you're looking to fool the official.

I personally think Vidic was a moron to go to ground like that and is without a doubt asking to be sent off and give a penalty away. That doesn't take away the fact that Sturridge is a blatant cheating **** for diving.

Moyes apparently believes he will turn it around = hanging on for the pay off.

Yeah but you could keep going back in the play with that attitude, it's all about the actual challenge at that second. The refs do get it tough though, it looked like a stone wall pen from his view i think.

Will be interesting to see what the starting line up will be tomorrow? Is RVP going to play, unfortunately Moyes doesn't have option i don't think with not playing him.

Sturridge diving and Vidic's tackle are 2 separate things. Whether Sturridge dives or not, as soon as Vidic tries to make that tackle it's a penalty. It was a challenge he could not win. Just because Sturridge hurdles the tackle and dives doesn't excuse Vidic's stupid attempt of a tackle.

It's only stupid because he doesn't get the ball, had he got it, oh what a wonderful tackle it is.

United need to get a pacey winger and striker signed up in the summer for sure..
