Does how you are personally perceived affect how your threads/posts are seen?

Slightly offtopic, but if I started a new thread on the subject I'd be villified....

Does anyone know 'what has happened' to Davey_Pitch? I was just thinking about what was said about predicting certain people to become UBs, and it reminded me of a coversation we had at one of the meets I went to. I then realised I haven't seen him post in ages, so I did a search and it's been nearly a month since he posted.

Looking at the trail it would appear he recently became a MoH rather than a Don, but whether that was the result, or perhaps cause, of the reduced level of activity he talks about isn't immediately clear.

Yes, if I was that bothered I could always email him, but other than MM deals and meets I've never contacted another member out of the blue like that and I don't intend to start now.
I think it was decided that a re-hash of the Dons was in order and only those who had a decent amount of specialist knowledge in the the forum(s) they moderated were kept.

I think we lost a few guys to this actually, not just Davey.

Or maybe I got the wrong end of the stick?

What gives you that impression? Personally I try to treat everyone the same, from long term members to first time posters.

I do the same. I've not been on the forum for long but I enjoy comming on here. Sure I have some spam posts in my 1,200 and suttin posts. I always read threads all the way through to regardless of who's posted :)

Tbh I think all I'm really noticed (if I'm noticed at all) for is my smilies!

Therefore I doubt I'm taken very seriously, I often feel my posts in "the boys" threads are ignored when giving a very female opinion and I don't tend to make many threads so that's hard to comment on. :)

I see and hear ya. Its the sig, Its just unmissable :)

Freefaller probably sees me as a war mongerer but if Virri Or CBS said something like i did it would make him think more and not just call them Naive and tell them to stop watching the media like he has done with me in the Israel threads :(

There are always two sides to a story.

Although I must admit the way that the media are doing things I would be with FF on this. But thats for the other thread.

It does not matter who posts it, if its rubbish someone will notice. Maybe if its a regular poster they will be less willing to say something, but still will get noticed.

My browsing habits tend to be glancing at a list of threads, not really paying attention to who the author is, selecting a thread/topic of interest and reading. My style is more dry in GD, serious in SC and an even mix while being helpful in GH/CC.

I find that sometimes I'll spot a name and if I recognise the person (for example Gilly), I'll read their thread out of interest. If it's ElRazur, I'm more likely to skip their thread because from experience I know they're just a flame-fest, but I'm likely to peak if the title intrigues me. I try to avoid all Megzy threads now. I'm guilty for probably skipping over less regular member's posts or spammers/trolls in favour of regulars as I hold their opinion in higher regard and they're more likely to hold content. I like to feel that my respect is earned, rather than given.

I do sometimes wonder how I'm percieved on these forums, as I seem to get an even mix of people jumping down my throat or playing along. I tend to post jokes a lot of the time, but no-one seems to attack me for it anymore, so I guess people have accepted my posting style.

I think an interesting topic would actually be to see which posters people think actually fit into this 'clique'.

That's a bad habit of mine, just randomly adding someone or emailing them from the forums. :o

For me to a certain extent it does change my view of posts/threads depending upon who made it. Though I think it doesn't weight it as much when the posts are outside of GD.

Somethings ive said have been said later on in the thread by "Higher SC members" and ive been shut down while they have been debated.
And i didnt just quote something straight out the media. Our media is far from biased towards the Americans and Israeli wars At the moment.

I might not be able to get my point across as well as others because im not all that good at righting my thoughts but it always seems that people are there to put words into my mouth and change around what i say when i say it and take it the wrong way.

Just because i cant get what i mean down with big words and perfect sentences doesn't mean i should be belittled because of it.

My view on that is different.

From my experience/view of the forums, if the exact same piece of crap was posted by a regular and a "noob" for example.

I believe that other members would be more willing to interpret a post as an attempt to be funny/witty/whatever if it were posted by certain regulars, other than the probable outright flaming a new poster who has no reputation would receive.

That is only relevant in GD though.

I will use Case Central as I know it best, if a regular posted some pointless crap, they would get flamed to hell / locked or deleted. But if someone new did the same, they would not.

Think it depends which section its in for that, new people in the hardware sections tend to get a more rounded reply to any questions than a regular would, as either people get reluctant to post or the question being asked is utter spam.

Yeah, that's probably right mate.

Another OcUK observation of mine is that there seem to be 3 type of posting groups.

The guys who stick to GD (and the other life forums), the posters who only lurk/advise in the Hardware forums and the 3rd (and smallest group) of members that like to do a bit of everything.

I'm a Life forum guy personally, infact I have every tab closed apart from Life and Games. I only venture into the other forums if I really have a specific question to ask.

Anyway, it's past my bed time. Enough from me for the night :p

I dont care what anyone thinks, judge me, judge me, judge me - like i really care - iv got a life, friends, income, fun - wahtever :o

I'm asuming you meant "Am I actually real?"

In which case I'm going to wager a guess and say "No".

:( :( :(

Nah I just wanted to know if I really am perceived as a spammer :p

Do I really need to answer that? :p

You're not as bad as KizZ though as you try, I call this the ElRazur effect. KizZ, IMO just spams outright. A couple of your friends could do with taking a lesson from you though.

Zefan has his spammy posts and his serious posts i find.
And some of his spammy ones can be pretty funny.

Theres no need to be serious every second of your life :)
