Does something need to be done about dogs?

The Staffordshire bull terrier doesn’t seem to be a public safety concern.
as a pedigree breed they are likely all half blind with dodgy hips!

The ban was always coming. There's too many bad owners out there to trust the public with dogs like the XL bully.

Totally agree, the number and severity of attacks in quick succession made it inevitable, lets hope it helps the numbers move in the opposite direction.

I'm of the mind mandatory 3rd party insurance is a sensible option.

Not really surprised by the breed of dog that killed the guy

Had they're really been this much of an increase in fatal/severe attacks? Or are the media just reporting on every one now?

The number of fatalities has more than doubled in the last 2 years, so it's getting more media attention. There's the reporting point that of the additional deaths compared with other years - the XLbully is reponsible for almost all of them.

Attack insurance shouldn’t be needed. Dog attacks simply should be an issue.

5th dog to be banned yet we have record number of attacks. So much for the numbers coming down after ban 1, 2.......4....5..... see you next year with the new dangerous dog in the news, even though that breed is already out there.

We seem to have record levels of killer dog ownership.

Not being an expert on these things, is there such a thing as an "American Bully" (without the XL)?

My neighbor was going to adopt(!) one from a youngster that used in the village as they were no longer allowed to keep the dog at their rented accommodation.

Neighbor assured me it wasn't an "XL".

Possibly an American Bulldog. Very similar sort of thing.

The XL is just a larger variant of the American Bully. They also come in "standard" and "pocket".

Thank you so this ban will cover all of them or just the XL? The BBC seem to be concentrating solely on the XL.
No idea. They're obviously focusing on "XL" as it's in the spotlight at the moment but when they draw the law up they might cast a slightly wider net.
