Does something need to be done about dogs?

The record number of attacks is due to the dog which is being banned.
Said that about the last one.
Numbers are going up and will probably still go up because the next, got to have it dog but I haven't a clue how to look after it properly breed will be the next one we talk about

Judging by those criteria, we would be needlessly banning loads of dogs
I don’t think too many, but what’s wrong with the criteria?

That's potentially a lot of different dogs...
Same as above
The clamping does take certain techniques, which the average person may not always know, but it's something every Staffy owner should be well versed in.
There's no actual locking going on and most of it is about redirecting the dog's attention, as it will likely be in 'prey' mode.
And if the owner isn‘t around as in our case? 4 blokes, 3 own dogs, none knew what to do, and whilst all could deal with their own dogs in a heartbeat, combined they couldn’t deal with 1 Staffy

The return to the owner will be down to the Police assessment of the incident circumstances and whether the dog is deemed to be dangerous.
Dog-on-dog incidents are adjudicated differently.
Except it bit the wife first.. precisely why our spaniel went to defend her.. our dog is soppy, he shy’s away from larger dogs, so that took some guts for it to do that and took the brunt, however, we don’t know all the facts, so assume it’s either vastly different situation, or vastly different policing.

Oh look another person dead due to a dog, get rid of all dogs!!
? The 10 year old boy was mauled, not killed? and no one says ban all dogs, surely it’s ok to discuss the topic?

Something now needs to be done about these sorts of people.
The attacks are likely bad owner + powerful dog.
But banning powerful dog X doesn't stop powerful dog Y coming in.

Next step is stopping these scum bags (who shouldn't have kids, but that's another thread) from owning any dogs.

But, as we've discussed.. Enforcing is not gonna happen.
In our case, owner was deemed ‘fit’ to own a dog and satisfied the dog handler.. yet sounds spookily similar to that stuffy attack just posted not to mention this was this was a 60 year old woman, not a tat showing chav…

Yeah we should just blanket ban all new pitbull descendents that weigh over 15kg.

Reading a random pro-dog website about some of the previously banned dog breeds, and couldn't help but chuckle.

On the one hand they were saying the usual stuff like, "It's wrong to judge a dog by their breed."

A few paragraphs down, "You shouldn't have any other pets with this breed. They will aggressively hunt things that move, especially if they run. They may also attack strangers who visit you if they don't consider them to be family."

So... totally not the breed, but be prepared for the dog to rip Uncle Joe's face off. And attack all your other pets. But the breed is fine. Totally.

What about the 52 year old in Staffordshire that died today! this must be the 10th or so attack in the last year alone! Get rid of all dogs I say, OR you require some kind of license and the dogs that are allowed are a very small number of breeds, I mean very small.

Ahh yes, just saw that, Jesus wept, a second Bully XL attack this week, and outside a primary school...
A man has been mauled to death by two 'out-of-control' American XL Bully dogs outside a West Midlands primary school

And the video of the 10 year old boy being attacked:
That poor kid isn't going to forget that in a hurry..

We need to get people reporting their neighbours for having demon dogs and then get Armed Police Units to execute the dogs outright, that'll teach the scrotes.
It could also enable grumpy old dog-hating Ms. Lemon-**** at Number 8 to get your demon Pomerainian shot dead just because it looked at her funny, or barked more than twice in a year...

I don’t think too many, but what’s wrong with the criteria?
Labradors, German Shepherds, Rottweilers, Border Collies, Dobermans, Rhodesian Ridgebacks, Portuguese Sheepdogs, Boxers, Corgis, King Charles Spaniel - All quite popular breeds in the UK with pretty good reputations, despite being banned in some other countries.
I'm deliberately excluding anything banned in Ukraine though, as they seem pretty insane, banning everything from Dalmatians to St Bernards, to little Welsh Terriers!

It's your choice as to which dogs live or die, I'm just curious as to how you decide.
What size of dog would the average person be able to fend off, do you think?

Was the Staffy-type wearing a collar?

Usually human attacks are treated much more seriously, so I would have to presume there are good reasons why the Police let it return.

Absolutely pathetic viewpoint

Then make it so false reporting is appropriately illegal and make Ms. Curtain Twitcher spend 5 years in prison for it, double with no parole if it resulted in harm to the neighbour.

It would be nice if there was a database of owners along with DNA for the dogs, that could be used to track down those who let their dogs foul the streets or decide to think it's a good idea to use their bags of **** as decorations on trees or using people gardens as a dumping ground for them and incur either massive fines for doing so or community service

Or just change dog ownership to treat it like owning a weapon, so not allowed on streets and only allowed on dog ranges or in the home where it's secure but that would be too much for most I expect

Any ban should be based on data and evidence.

There are lots of large breeds, some of which go back hundreds of years, which have never really been a problem and almost certainly never will.

Just because we’ve allowed an insane abomination of breed (XLbully) to exist, doesn’t mean we should now start to demonise all other large dogs, when they’re not causing a problem.

Data and evidence must be at the forefront of any decision, not knee jerk reactions.

Who's gonna pay for the cops to sit outside properties for a couple of weeks each with a tally-box and soundmeter, counting how loud and often particular dogs do/n't bark, before giving up and dragging Ms. Dried-Beef Curtains off to prison?

Yeah it does - This is the Internet. This is the way.

I wouldn't be surprised to find screams and clamouring for The Queen to be arrested and personally charged over all the times one of her Corgis bit the Royal Staff!!
