Does something need to be done about dogs?

Banning (through regulation, licence, sheer bureaucracy*) anything is never enough either....always someone willing to say no to authority, just have to keep making it difficult.

They'll probably move on to packs of chihuahuas though.

*it just annoys everyone else.

Not gonna lie, if I have to start paying even more for my dogs (licences, higher insurance costs) then I'm going to be ****ed off.
Always paying for others and their ****ups in this country.

The government solution to everything is to tax it. I don't think they know any other solutions.

I am not one for the nanny state we have become, either.

Having said that, I think that such large jaw dogs are ridiculous. Having made many suggestions in this thread and had them all rejected, I will go with all dogs must be muzzled outdoors. Even in front gardens.

That would be a start, I really don't know how many more people are going to have to die before the government realise that all dogs need to be licensed and ideally not even be allowed to have them as pets, there are a tiny percentage that need a working dog, and that should be it, otherwise ban all dogs!

How many more people are going to have to die in road traffic accidents before something is done? Ban all cars, vans, buses and trucks i tell you!

That is the most stupid argument ever, and has been discussed to death in this thread pages back, cars are essential to the economy and travel. Dogs are not and outside of the TINY requirement for working dogs....ban all dogs!!!!

Dog owners in the UK contribute a huge amount to both employment in retail and associated spending, for example the dog food market is worth 1.6 billion alone, how much is spent on vets / insurance / toys etc, the market must be worth in excess of 3 / 4 billion a year.

There will still be a market for dog food albeit smaller, are you really suggesting that people buying dog food should over come the need to save lives? Ban all dogs!

Now your just being silly. Please come up with a tangible argument or move on...ban all dogs!

My position is just as valid as yours i.e. stupid. The risk of becoming a fatality in a dog attack is incredibly small, the economic and personal benefits of allowing people to own dogs far outweigh the risks, therefore dogs as a whole should not be banned.

Your ban all dogs nonsense is one of the stupidest things I’ve read on here in a while and that says a lot for GD.

Well that is your opinion and you are entitled to it, no one requires a dog unless it's a working dog. Get rid of them and the death issues go away (and it's like once a week at the moment if not more) you can tell me I'm wrong, that's fine but the deaths will keep going up and children / adults will keep getting killed. But hey as long as those people can pet and walk there dogs great! pretty much not my problem attitude. Ban all dogs!!

I don't think that is stupid at all!! Personally, I would consider a ban on all dogs whose breed typically goes above a certain weight. But the government are too busy ******* up our energy policy and stuff like that to be interested in dogs. Besides, it's mostly poor people who die, so no loss, eh?

I'm always interested when this argument is used in any context, it's not like the money disappears into thin air, it'll just get spent on something else, surely?

It depends what the money gets spent on and if that money actually stays in the country or goes to someone like Amazon. The domestic dog food market in which the UK has quite a few manufactures is quite large.

Holidays out of the country?
This is where all my excess spending goes.

With my boy a chunk is diverted to UK.
Insurance/vets, feed, (which comes by post) going out on walks (paying for petrol, entrance fees etc), kit (bowls, harnesses, leads, his travel case )
