Does something need to be done about dogs?

So, I just got bit by an XL bully type dog.

Went into my local after a 12h shift at work, someone sat at the bar with their dog, no lead, no muzzle on it. Held out my hand so it could sniff me and it just went mental and bit me on the stomach.

I had a right go at the owner who barely even acknowledged it had happened, then I saw a muzzle on the bar (that they had removed, after telling staff it's a bit bitey) and thew it at her, telling her to put it on (amongst some other choice words). She did but put it on wrong. As she was leaving it fell off again and again I had a go at her, at which point she squared up to me and tried to threaten me :D

I took photos of the wound, the dog and the work shirt the owner was wearing but apparently that's not enough evidence for the police to pursue it, I need their name, DOB, pic of their face etc. for them to even bother investigating.

I'm just hoping the idiot owner doesn't endanger a child or something with their dog.

Ignore the fact I'm fat AF, but this is what it looks like an hour or two after:

I'm honestly more annoyed at the police for being so ****ing useless. Your job is to investigate crime but unless I do the work they give zero ****s.

Put in a complaint to the police. You have a significant line of enquiry in a work shirt (if she is a genuine employee).

If not, put the offender all over social media and then ask for her address, peruse her civilly and soon the police will get involved over fear you are taking things into your own hands when they get calls from her that you are hunting her and have made threats to her. (Don’t make any illegal threats)

Lol your advice, expose yourself over media and make threats so the police can investigate you.

Anyway the next kid that runs up to that dog is going to get bitten.

Yeah I mean they could easily identify this person, they’ll be 20 different cctv cameras of this person entering/leaving, it would probably take them an hour to get the Identity.

That’s also quite a nasty bite, if it was me - I’d definitely speak to a solicitor, or get some professional advice and I certainly wouldn’t let it go.

I absolutely wouldn’t get involved on social media with something like this, because if the police do get involved - you may inadvertently mess up the investigation, because things get out of hand on social media very quickly.

The police need to lead this and do their jobs, so please get some professional advice, but don’t let it go.

For future reference, one thing I would try, perhaps, is dialling 999. They are obliged to follow a 999 call through. I mean it is a misuse of the 999 service, but if you make up some BS about dangerous dog I think you would get away with it.

Wut? Obliged to follow a 999 call? They’ll tell you to sod off and report it on 101 or their website if it’s not an emergency.

@Rai200

Yeah don't drop that, that dog does not sound acceptable or appropriate for a civilised society.
Needs to be destroyed.

I went to the police and reported it in person today, again they won't do much without me basically spoon feeding them the persons details.

That was actually the police advice also, told me to post on Facebook.

you might need to get a tetnus booster too

Already have, and antibiotics but thank you.

In addition to all the work you've done for the Police, talk to a solicitor and get legal advice.
At the same time, write to your local MP and get them involved.

What did the bar staff do and why didn't they kick her out?

They might have CCTV.

Secondly, they were negligent for allowing her to remove the muzzle in the first place - I mean if she literally told them that (a known dangerous breed) was "a bit bitey" and they just let her remove the muzzle and lead and have it sat there then they're partly to blame too - WTF were the staff thinking?

If you sued them I bet they'd not be happy with that woman and wouldn't be letting her take the muzzle off (or perhaps even come back to the pub) ever again - though it might also mean you're no longer welcome too if it's an independent pub. If it's a brewery-owned chain then I'd definitely sue them!

Go to a solicitor and in addition to the police report/crime see if you can pursue a civil case against both the woman and the brewery/pub - worth going after both in case she's on a low income and comes up with some BS about how she can only afford £1 a week. - Edit - if it's a registered XL Bully (might well be given the muzzle) then she's required to have third-party liability insurance ergo definitely sue her - you're potentially owed a few grand:

Tried a quick google:

If the police are otherwise being lazy then at least there could still be some consequences for her but really they need to both confiscate that dog/put it down and ban her from owning a dangerous breed + criminal punishment and a payout in civil court too - ditto to the pub, staff were negligent and helped cause that after being told about the danger - pub (hopefully brewery chain as a whole) might be prompted to update their guidelines/staff training.

how the hell can someone own a bully XL which is "a bit bitey" and yet take it to public places without a muzzle on?

I sympathise with the police picking their battles on some occasions, but refusing to follow that up is a disgrace, it could be someones toddler at face height next time. that is a nasty looking bite.

Because some people are.. Well, not as sensible as you and me.

Given the high number of serious dog attacks, that is a gross failure on the part of the police.
