Does something need to be done about dogs?

Hah that made me think 'Staffie - dog of peace.'

One of my best friends has a Staffie, she's amazing. I also, see another Staffie on my walk who's a gorgeous well-behaved dog. Another owner I met had her dog attacked by a Staffie...

So, it really is down to the owner.
That has been my experience. Most are very well behaved, I remember one that use to go everywhere with its owner, you’d quite often see him riding his bike with the dog running beside off of its lead. But you really wouldn’t want to be on the other end of an aggressive staffie, they will and can do plenty of damage to most dogs or humans.

A staffie for example which is my favourite breed of dog has certain needs and requirements.

I'll be honest I really don't see the attraction of Bully breed dogs, in my opinion, they're ugly-looking creatures. It's always the same sort of owner with these types of dogs as well, definitely breed of choice for chavs. Diddums summed it up perfectly.

Tracksuit, neck tattoo, use of the words "fam", "bruv" and "innit" would be a good start.

That’s your opinion at least you acknowledge your ignorance. I don’t like poodles or chihuahua’s so I won’t get one. Such is life.

I think with Staffies, it really probably does boil down to an owner problem. If you socialise then properly, train them properly and start all of this from a very early age I imagine they’re fine..

I just think that these breeds are more likely to attract an owner who wants a powerful status dog, doesn’t really love or understand it, doesn’t know what they’re doing and doesn’t really care.

It’s sad really,

Nail on the head. I know people who have brought them up properly and raised families around them with no issues. They are beautiful dogs and as always humans are the issue.

Surely if both dogs are on a lead, like they should be, then this wouldn't happen as both owners are in control of their dog? I'm sorry there's just no excuse for walking your dog off the lead in a public place, no matter how well trained you think it is. I appreciate that you think yours is well trained and wouldn't hurt a fly, but you just never know, even well-trained dogs can turn and bite.

I couldn't care less, I'm not interested in playing, people just need to get their dogs on a leash and keep them under control!

A dog being on it's lead doesn't mean it's under control, my wife wouldn't be able to hold our dog back if it decided it was off for any reason and that would be the same for any reasonable sized dog, if it wants to go then it's going whether you like it or not.

As for the 2nd point, I know, I was agreeing with you. Sadly the dog doesn't know any better and that failing is solely down to the owner.

I know it’s personal taste but how can you call this dog ugly?

The problem with domesticated animals is that they’re still wild, predatory and territorial animals at heart.

Not much of a concern when said beast is one of handbag dogs which weigh a kilo soaking wet and are frightened of their own shadows.

Bit of a worry when it’s 25 kilos of pit bull that’s got the right hump and isn’t on a lead.

Lots of Staffies round our way. The owners tend to be really nice family type people, and the dogs themselves are like short, stubby, fat cousins of the soppy Labrador.
I see a fair few chavs with Staffy types, but they're almost always crossbred with more aggressive dogs rather than pure Staffy, basically clueless back-street breeders deliberately undoing the decades of non-aggression breeding that made the Staffy such a desirable dog in the first place.

I don't, that dog has a reputation because of the people who tend to own them, how they treat them and how those dogs behave.
It does and that reputation isn't deserved. Your last four words "how those dogs behave" is incorrect, they don't naturally behave like that, they do however learn to behave like that due to their treatment, funnily enough so do any other breed of dog.

Because of their physique and stance they do sadly seem to be a popular choice for scumbags, where I live I meet several owners with bull breeds, staffies, xls, mastiff etc. all owned by regular families and all well behaved animals but then again I don't live in a chavy area, I'd imagine if I did then my experience would be different.

Mistreat any animal and you'll have problems, unfortunately humans are ***** and ruin everything.

Yeah this is definitely true, a lot of it goes on under the radar on places like Facebook too, so there’s no real way to know exactly what you’re getting or crucially why it’s being given away / sold.

It's pretty much a chode, wider than it is long.
That’s why they were bred for fighting. Low centre of gravity and muscular around the neck and shoulders, if they lock their jaw they aren’t letting go. Essentially the Mike Tyson of dogs.

Not sure why you’re comparing a dog to your member though. :p

Look how cute they are.

I think a staffies look fine, I just hate it when I see them with cropped ears* and I still see it far too often.

*I hate cropped ears on all dogs as it’s brutal and totally unnecessary.
