Does something need to be done about dogs?

I can't argue with that and would go as far as to say it could/should be explained in junior school. Opportunity is there to bring in a well-behaved dog (a guide dog or companion animal) and just spend 1 hour teaching kids how to approach and deal with dogs they might meet while playing outside. Also the warning signs the animal is not happy. I'm pretty sure schools could find that time to spare and kids would love it.

Until some idiot kid harms the dog or provokes it and one of them gets bitten...

Because these owners don't know how to control or teach these types of dogs. In the right hands they are perfectly fine.

Yes they were breed for bloodsports etc but how do these dogs get aggressive, they are either taught to or looked after wrongly.

Any medium sized dog can do damage, no point comparing a little thing is it.

Yes, because one of the most dangerous dogs in this country is the jack Russell. Which is a small thing.

But then any big/medium sized dog needs getting rid of then, as like you say, each one is potentially dangerous.

We've seen people tame Lions, Tigers, should we be able to keep them? No, because we have people who can't control dogs.

Weird, it's almost like tamers have been killed and injured because the animals they work with are dangerous...

What's the point of having a license when all dogs are required to be chipped by the time they're 8 weeks old.

Yes people can avoid having their dog chipped, just the same way people can avoid having a license. It wont stop people from owning/breeding banned breeds.

All cars are required to have a number plate. The driver still needs a licence.

Caerphilly being a small place, I've just had a conversation with someone who knows the son who tried and failed to pull the dog off his mum, and was injured in the process. He couldn't get it off as it was too strong. I got told a lot more I won't repeat here.

It sounds like a horrendous experience.

I've seen the result of a dog attack. They're not pretty.

Time doesnt have a concept of years end. Its not like at the end of the year the dogs community said 'right dogs no more attacking people'. Ah Rover for gods sake it hasnt even been two weeks yet.

Yes but humans do. We're human. Well, I'm not sure about you. Humans frequently use years, or time at least, as a way to measure the frequency of events.
You'll frequently notice that statistics are collated per year.
I know this might be complicated for you however.
