Does something need to be done about dogs?

It's becoming regular like mass shootings in the US

Another one in Penyrheol, just up the road from me. Penyrheol is a but rough, but not noticeably worse than many other places in the valley, so not sure why it is copping it so badly.

Not heard any local gossip about this, but will update if I do.

What part has you confused? Words too big?
Well I'd like you to explain further, unsure how you cant see that.
Maybe instead of getting your knickers in a twist when you see my name, you can act like a big boy and reply to the message.

To really make it clear, I'd love to see where I am "displaying the same level of ambivalence/disregard as gun owners" as you say.

Talk about megalomania. Assuming it was about you. Thirsty for attention?
Perhaps though, if you want a clue, look at people excusing firearm possession and the arguments they make and then the arguments people in this thread are making against dog controls.

It's immensely stupid to conflate them, just like it is with cars etc

True. Cars are pretty much essential for many for modern living in the uk and around the world due to urban planning.
Dogs and guns aren't.

Dis86 - makes fleeting statement, does not want to back it up with really what he means, expects users to go through pages to get to a point, he is making but wont confirm how.

Logic.

I'll tell my blind neighbour to go put her dog down as its not essential.

It's not essential. It's a nice to have for her. Are all dogs guide dogs?

But a gun is literally a weapon.

In almost all cases, their sole design and creation purpose was to kill other humans.

A dog is not. Yes, they can be used as a weapon, and some have in the past been bred as weapons, but in general terms and in the majority of cases, a modern domestic dog is not a weapon and poses very little danger to anyone.

Yet we've got the stats to show just how many people are harmed or even killed by domestic dogs in this country which completely contradict your argument.

Many firearms are designed for sport shooting.

Yep

69 dog related deaths between 2001 and 2021, with about 10 million dogs in circulation.

Guns still kill more people per year in this country, and they are pretty much banned.

And injuries? And deaths since 2020 since were coming up to the half way point in 2023? Which was the whole point of this thread...

People get harmed or injured by things that aren't designed to injure or harm them all the time.

Should we abolish the kitchen knife? Do away with the combi drill? Ban shaving razors? Start a campaign to end the iron?

No, we shouldn't

We should however rightly ban something that's sole purpose is to kill as many people as efficiently and quickly as possible.

Sports shooting is fine, but have it run in dedicated safe centres/environments, where the equipment stays put, just like most other dangerous sports/activities.

But that's not the purpose of a sports rifle...yet they're controlled.
That's not the purpose of an air rifle...yet they're controlled.
Kitchen knives and razors are controlled so you've just come up with another crap argument

How many children have accidentally been killed by combi-drills over the last 20 years?

And what might those restrictions be on knives and razors? Are they age related per chance...like dogs?
