Domino's Delivery

I'll tip for attentive service. Barber, exceptional waiting staff etc but I really hate the tipping culture.

Years ago it was about topping up awful wages, at least in the USA. People have at least a minimum wage now so it's annoying that it's still expected in certain situations. It should be entirely discretionary.

Nope don't tip delivery drivers as a rule, dominos charge a fortune even with discount codes and local places charge a delivery fee anyway, not going to add even more cost on.

Only place I do tip is restaurants and only because its expected and I'm eating with others who do it.

Companies should charge enough to pay their staff properly, tips to me seem to let the employer of the hook and even encourage low pay rates as the customer will subsidise it.

Tips are not about being paid, they are an act of generosity. As a Dominos driver currently, I appreciate them, but never expect them.
If you want to give, then give, if not, no bother, I'm just doing my job.
And we have names for people that call us monkeys, too.

Why use a term like that, are these people beneath you? It smacks of snobbery.
I can promise you, snobs don't tip. ;)

I always pay by card and tip about £1 - £1.50 providing they don't take long with the delivery, they very rarely do. However most drivers just hand me the goods and scarper, especially dominos drivers. Papa Johns one's seem more relaxed to accept a tip. I used to manage a pizza the hut branch back during my college days so I know how tips really do help.

I don't get tipped for doing my job so why would I tip others to do theirs?

I have nothing against people doing unskilled jobs, the majority of us have been there, but my job is fairly technical and stressful and I put up with a lot of grief from clients who are more likely to haggle or complain about their bill than give anything extra. Not sure why driving a pizza from A - B deserves anything more than what the person signed up for pay wise..

Besides, domino's is disgustingly expensive anyway.

This is typical of our culture, we are loathe to think that someone should progress financially in a way that we don't.

Your question could quite easily have been:

It's great that people get tipped for providing a good service, why can't my clients reward me for a good service?

But no, because you don't receive such a nice gesture, then no one should.

This isn't America.
The only time I will "tip" is when I get my haircut and I can't be bothered to get the change from the tenner, but I don't see that as a tip more of not making a awkward situation of waiting around the change.

Good service should be the norm. If someone does their job in a normal (I.e good) manner they have done what they are paid to do and earnt their wage, not a bonus. Same goes for my barber, they have a set price for a haircut. I go in there to get a haircut and they do it as per my request. At what point is that deserving of a tip? If they squeeze me in between appointments or stay past their closing time then sure I'll leave the change from my tenner.

I have tipped for exceptional service in restaurants in the past when it is truly deserved but I find it's rare enough that I feel the service is anything more than average to be honest!

You're completely missing the point if you think my opinion is based on the financial aspect.

Nope, pay enough for Dominos as it is.

That and I normally pay through Paypal and pretty much never have any cash about.

You get change from a tenner for a haircut?

I once got tipped 20p for loading 500kg of cement into a trailer. I told him to keep it.

I had a Dominos last night. 25 quid for 2 pizzas and some sides. I think I've paid enough.

My wife works in a very prestigious hotel where all tips are supposed to be pooled so all staff get a fair share. A very good month is £100 extra, that she has to pay tax on, it's usually around the 60 quid mark. Rich folks are tight as a duck's arse, and that's watertight.

Of course I don't tip the postman what an absurd thing to say. Cash doesn't exchange hands with them and they generally provide the service when I'm not even in.

Cash doesn't exchange hands with Dominos either - I can't remember the last time you needed to pay cash, its all done through the website or app and paid for up front.

Cash exchanges hands at Tesco, do you tip them?

Do Tesco deliver cooked pizzas??

Tipping is a thing...do it or don't do it, whatever!

saying 'why do pizza delivery drivers get tipped?' is like saying why do farmers not get the same holidays as teachers....it's just different :p
