Complete denial of reality. The "good guy with a gun" mantra is one of the pillars of their entire argument.

The same people are now standing with their guns protesting social distancing, banned gatherings, masks etc

ie the very mechanisms that are being put in place to save them and others from dying from the coronavirus.

I mean he's in Politics, he says what is required to win an election. You're pretty naive if you believe certain things Politicians say. If it's any concellation he probably also doesn't give a **** about the 2nd amendment either, but he's gotta get those votes.

The right to bear arms is so that they can protect themselves from all enemies foreign and domestic includes a tyrannical government that thinks it can ignore their constitutional rights. Venezuela is the perfect recent example they took away peoples guns and then went full socialist and there was nothing then the people could do about it, I've read stories about a female lawyer becoming a prostitute because their country is now such a basket case.

What nonsense. If the US Gov went full tyrannical it would have to have the backing of not just the US military and all its other agencies. What are citizens doing to do against M1 tanks, Apache helicopters, F22 fighters? This isn't some tinpot nation where a public uprising might be possible, it has the most powerful military in the world and then some. Then there are the police forces that are more like military outfits they have so much hardware.

I get the protecting your home bit, just think the death toll is a heavy price to pay.

Ah look at you jump straight to socialists taking away peoples guns. It doesn't matter if its extreme left or right, if you want to keep people in their place its best if they aren't armed. So yeah for a lot of nations that works and possibly for the US long in the past but post ww2 it couldn't happen.
