DON'T BUY MSI THEY MIS-SOLD TOP SPEC GT SERIES LAPTOPS with MXM Graphics

I think they'll make a judgement even if they don't get a response. Otherwise the ombudsman's existence would be pointless.

How longs it been since you raised that complaint?

In other words everyone should be paying the exacts same price ?
I think it would still complicate things, as some people may have models that cant switch to the newer model, so would lose or gain features.

Some people computers are better than others, so they would lose against people who have lower specs.

I think its MSI fault for not communication the trade in offer properly, they should have just stated the trade in depends on specs, prices and date of purchase as its too complicated to do a complete swap.

I'm not saying everyone should be paying the same price.

I'm saying MSI should adhere to the statement they made and provide the trade-in at a cost comparable to previous MXM upgrades.

This has been stated numerous times throughout the thread.

Cost of GPU you wish to trade up to, less the an agreed valuation for your existing GPU.

Previous MXM SKU's provided by MSI the customer would purchase the GPU they wanted, then sell on their existing card. (This included MSI's own upgrade kits to the GTX 970M and GTX 980M).

All other features have never been taken into account.

I think they'll make a judgement even if they don't get a response. Otherwise the ombudsman's existence would be pointless.

Months, and the ombudsman closed it because the company in question did not respond.

So no judgement. Pretty poor show really.

I haven't posted here yet, as I wanted to get my offers first and then see what you guys think about them.

I have a GT72 2QE, top spec: 32gb RAM, 512gb 4x SSD RAID0, GTX 980m
I paid £2300 for it when I got it.

My valuation is £1609 which means that if I trade it in and add another £800 on top, I can get a GT73 with 32gb RAM, 512 SSD and GTX 1070M

I'm not considering the 1080 because they want 400 more for it...

Do you think this offer is reasonable?

My GT72 + £800 for GT73 with 1070 which retails at £2400 (Kabylake)

Auction site prices for a 980M seem to range from £550 to £750 so that's probably not too bad.

Except MSI have not stated the costs associated with the program will attribute a value to your notebook and reduce from the cost of a new notebook.

Please remember the program is here to provide an alternative to MSI advertised upgradable MXM GPU's at a cost comparable to previous MXM upgrades.

Considering MSI's statement in regards to this situation that is a bad deal.

See Neo2016's deal, then ask MSI to reconsider. Ask them to base it on the same 'previous MXM upgrade' that applied in Neo's case.

All you are asking MSI to do is stick to their statement, that they published, on their facebook page.

I replied and told them that I am willing to accept

My GT72 + £800 for a GT73 with a 1080 and same ram/storage.

If they accept, I'm going for it. If they don't ill say

My GT72 + £500 for a GT73 with a 1070 and same ram/storage.

6th/7th gen CPU I'm not fussed about...

They wouldn't just close it would they? What was their explanation?

I can't even log in to my complaint with the reference number anymore, but pretty much that's all that was said 'company in question did not respond to our enquiries'.

I think someone else contacted the ombudsman also, tropicola maybe?

There's a post earlier in the thread somewhere.....

That's still doesn't hold parity with what they are offering other customers.

Let us know how they respond. :)

Its only certain sectors such as electric and gas and telecoms etc that arw required to use ombusdman or a third party complaint resolutions team.

Msi dont have to speak to ombudsman and without replying there is little they can do... But it shows if msi are unwilling they are in the wrong.

Also again MXM ahould be same for everyone if your upgrading like for like 1080 would cost the same for everyone. As its just thr card.

If your chooaing to upgrade to a much higher spec then ofc expect to pay more

If your losing special editions or features id expect to pay less.

Update, my laptop is ready to ship and trackig will be sent later

Msi confirmed this is taking so long because 1 person was on holiday for 3 weeks

Edit

And yes I logged a complaint which was closed as msi did not reply.

GT73 comes with 2x PCIE M.2 , 1x sata M.2 and 1x2.5 Sata HDD Space . only the 2xpcie M.2 are Raid ,not sure if its possible to have another raid and then raid the M.2 sata and 2.5 sata .

So what has been the best offer?

What do you think a reasonable offer in my case would be?

I don't mind losing the 4x M2 SSD raid for 2x PCIE SSD raid. Is the 2.5" hdd SATA3 compatible?

The only system that follows MSI's statement of 'comparable cost' would as such:

Cost of GPU you want to upgrade to, less agreed value of existing GPU.

Because historically MSI would not have received your existing GPU they must attribute a value to it, if they want it as part of the trade in.

Going purely on cost of the MSI manufactured MXM 1070/1080 available online, I would say £300 to upgrade to a GT73VR with 1070 or £600 to upgrade to a GT73VR with 1080 as long as both machines match RAM and storage quantities.

There is no reasons why we as customers should lose anything in a program designed by MSI to fix a screw up created by MSI.

When you say "for £2399" do you mean you are paying that much extra, or that the price of the original laptop is deducted form that?

sorry that £2399 is the new SRP subtract credit for my current laptop at £1100

so new laptop will cost roughly £1299.

I say roughly because i don't have the original ram modules and don't know what else they MSI will try to charge for.

also update,

received my shipping label this morning, but my address is incorrect, they left the main line of the address missing from the label. great another delay. I know im going to go insane without my laptop, its my main source of enjoyment/relaxation, i don't have console and my backup laptop only had intel hd from 4th gen, so not great for gaming fun... i hope i get the new laptop asafp!

Thank you.

Based on this my offer sounds like a reasonable middle ground. I'll wait and see what they will say.

If they don't seem to accept I'll just keep my current GT72 and they'll make no money from me.

If all else fails, a 1060 should be plug and play on my current machine, right? Where would I find one? Plus potentially the new heatsink required

No worries, please keep us informed.

Have a look around for a MXM 1060 specifically from a GT72VR or GT62VR that comes with the correct heatsink. If you cannot find one, drop me an trust message and I can hook you up on the other board you post on. :)

Its sata 3 yes , i upgraded the 1TB 7200rpm to a seagate 2TB firecuda SSHD but even this is not big enough for games . i only install the games i play on laptop and then us the main PC for other games as that's got 2x4TB SSHD .
