They would attend if a crime is in progress this wouldn't change.
2ndly only if CPS belived you were using reasonable force.

They'll attend if they have officers in the area, we have two for a population of over 800,000 most days in my region, yes they can call in from outside that but who's to say those aren't busy and they're less likely to know the area.

Police staffing levels on the front line are shockingly low.

Glad i live in a country, where the stand your ground & castle law exists. Any home owner has certain protections and immunities permitting him or her, in certain circumstances, to use force (up to and including deadly force) to defend himself or herself against an intruder, free from legal responsibility/prosecution for the consequences of the force used. Be it bludgeoned by some antique statue, or better still a foot wide hole blown in their torso by a 12gauge... It law stands behind the property owner.

Completely eliminates the chav element of one breaking into your home, looking for a few quid, that plagues many parts of Britain.

You're saying that breaking and entering is a thing of the past in America?

I was of course joking, the police force do an incrediblty difficult job on an ever shrinking budget, much like most other public sector organisations. Unfortunately it's only going to get worse, and that means cutting things that can be described as "non-essential".

 No they don't. They're doomed to failure by budget and policy and they do the job they're charged with very poorly as a result. Despite what they'd like you to think, police officers aren't super-men - they're just ordinary people, micro-managed and de-skilled to the max.

The fact you need a "stand your ground" law says it all though. I'd rather be burgled in the UK than in the US.

Never said they were stopping that did I !!! instead of wasting time sitting around in a van doing sod all, they could be sending police to burglaries

Clearly not worth their time wasting police resources on regular people

Policing in the community is pretty much dead, the only time I see a policeman on foot is when it's summer...

It's actually originally an English law, however as it became more and more of a nanny state, taking away people's rights and wanting absolute socialised government control, you're now just left to fend for yourselves with erm, a phone call to 999, whilst the actual criminals are laughing at the fact they'll just get a slap on hand for helping themselves.

This is where pcso's should be utilised, they don't have the powers of arrest, but at least the victim, community would feel like something is being done.
