Don't Pay UK

to be fair there is no reason why people would know . normal logic for other proves for sale would work like that .

I think they should know.

Its like saying "things cost 0 to produce, so every product sold is pure profit"

Surely everyone knows there's a base cost, and that base cost can change.
And it has changed.
And companies have to make profit to survive.

Its like people think energy is free. And that producers and distributers should operate differently to everyone else. Despite them being private. Even if publicly owned it would be expensive!

Also seems people have no idea its bad elsewhere. And think in a purely national sense.

I totally understand its a complex system. But the real basics are no different to two pubs not being able to constantly lower prices due to base costs.

Didn’t the guy who lives in Sweden @Efour? Say that the cost for electricity there is about 4p per kw/h?

Not sure.
I was in Norway last week. Now their energy up north is cheap! Norway is an amazing example where they've used and invested their natural resources. I'd love to live there.

Something not quite right if this is being allowed to happen

How Sweden has profited from selling Norwegian energy back to Norway

Sweden has turned a profit buying cheap Norwegian power from the country's north and then exporting it back to southern Norway where prices are higher.

Perhaps the north uses its own supply yet the south has to import at record, rip-off prices due to the lack of infrastructure?

Yeah the north south divide in Sweden is insane. It's divided into 4 zones, progressively becoming cheaper the more north you travel.
Up here in the frozen cowboy forests, 4p is about average it can spike up but only for an hour. Prices are charged hourly then mostly averaged out. I'm not 100%
It's all Hydroelectric production. A bit of waste incineration/biomass.
The amount of coin mining companies that were springing up here was getting nuts. Ice cold in winter for cooling, combined with nearly "free" electric.

Down south it's normal hiked prices like most of urban Europe.

All supply and demand.....

I was in lofoten and they said it was similar in Norway!

A boycott happens if one company is targetted. So lets say Tesco. If everyone stopped shopping and buying petrol at Tesco for even a day, or longer, then it would effect that company. You can still buy those things at the other chain stores or shops.
Problem there is that Tesco (like most supermarkets) sell fuel at cost in order to lure people into their store. They can't exactly start selling it below cost just to appease some dumb boycotters.

Tesco's isn't cheap TBH, cheaper at Asda usually, and my local 'Jet' petrol statikg is nearly 10p cheaper than Tesco!

Yeah no one is going to sell at a loss. You'd just do something else.

Go to work and pay for the privilege of it? Nope!

Does Sweden not have a grid, why can't they get the power down south?

I hear what you're saying, and agree in the main.

Though something as to give. We're approaching a financial tipping point were the average person won't be able to afford to buy much from stores anyway. So its in the advantage of these stores to start pre-emtively lowering prices to get more customers in, so when the energy bills drop they will have a good reputation.

Why shouldn't people in southern Norway benefit from cheaper electricity/more competition from Sweden re-exporting electricity to them?

Norway is more than 1/3rd the size of England yet has a lower population than London, the smaller the population the more bang per buck renewables have.
