Doom Vulkan vs Open GL performance

Agreed Griff and I couldn't care less what people are using, so long as they have a good experience and trouble free. I love to see new techs and my small experience with Vulkan is impressed. Gains for me over OGL as well and no stuttering or issues in my playtime. Damn this game looks and plays good and a big fat hand thumbs up to ID and Bethesda on that.

@ Si

Does that look fishy at all? That is with Nightmare settings (not just Ultra) and everything maxed out. It really does run well.

You forgot to set Shadows to Nightmare Greg.

I've been unable to unlock nightmare even though i found a code you can add to the launcher, it only works on OpenGL.

Ahhh cheers Matt and will have another run. I had just finished a night shift at work, so will let myself off :D

I would be interested to see what VRAM it needs to run at certain resolutions. I am wondering if 8GB is enough for 4K and everything on max?

You got a special dev build/Nv Async driver version running the elusive Nv Async enabled Doom build greg coz he's talking about Nv's apparant lack of Async support-not how well or not it's running?

Do you still think Nv have working hardware Async on Maxwell and or Polaris as you fair pushed it was the case in the past?

I think it is great that AMD have got some real good gains (genuinely) but reading this thread, you would think NVidia were really struggling but doing some googling, not so. Some in this thread like Si and Shankly need to step back a bit and look at what they are coming across like. The game is sweet though and good call on buying it. RX480 is doing very well I see and nice one :)

? My post is all the truth the game isn't running Async on Nvidia. They is a widespread of people with issues on nvidia some gain some don't. While on amd it seems everyone is gaining performance.

Huh? No special build and running everything bog standard. So you are saying there is no A-Sync support for me? Well I am not sure what to say to that really  Running well here and I guess when it is added, it will run faster :p

What kind of an excuse is that for a real, manly gamer? Huh?

True that brother but I am an old man who needs his beauty sleep :D

Ahhh ok, coolio :o

@ Fivestars, that is the nightmare display settings that you can choose in the game options.

Oh well, I'll take that as you still do think that way since you didn't want to answer tbe question.

I answered the question you asked?

Not sure what you want me to say Tommy? AMD had Mantle and it took them quite a long time to get their hardware running with it? Vulkan is pretty much Mantle from my understanding, so I can see why AMD have it working well early on but for NVidia, it will take time I guess. Does it look like it is running well for me? Does it look like I am having problems? Does it look like I am suffering due to the lack of ASync?

Game runs well and that is that, so not sure what I am supposed to be cheesed off about.

Hopefully not too long. I am interested to see what gains come from Async on my hardware but not really a big issue :)

Gregster, that doesn't actually say Async will work/be included with the game ready driver and from what I have read it isn't going to be soon that ID & Nvidia get it working for them.

I still feel the reason we are seeing Vulkan improvement compared to what DX12 has shown is two fold, a) it is basically Mantel so AMD know how to get it running and so can help where needed b) we are comparing it to OpenGL game that has always been sluggish compared to DX11 games when it comes to high FPS numbers.

Will wait to see if there is a game that goes from DX11 to Vulkan to make any real comment on what this is doing for improvements.
