Doom Vulkan vs Open GL performance

How do you know it has a minimal effect on the GFX? :p That is what I would also say if I couldn't run with max settings :D

It would be good for people to just play the game and by all accounts and from everything I have seen, the game runs well on pretty much all GPUs but as per, it is all about winning and nothing to do with gaming :D

(btw, I still get a little fanboi from time to time) :p

Because there are sites that showed the side by side comparisons. There really is no difference. Usually nvidias poor image quality more than rebalances the loss of slightly reduced textures for us 4gb AMD users :)

I can grantee pretty much that computerbase did a wrong benchmark ,however, it is my opinion only.

Meaning you don't like the results, so you cast aspersions on it.

ComputerBase-dot-de are probably the most reliable, circumspect benching site on the net.

Also, those figures were average FPS from a walk through, not them trying to find a specific area that benefits one card or another, then spending hours finding the right piece of wall to stare at as they take a static FPS reading, as many other individuals and sites have done.

Its good to see AMD finally starting to get there card's fully used but for the next few year its going to be more of rare occurrence meaning I haven't see that there will lots of DX12 or Vulkan titles.
At this time I would only buy a GFX card to get the best performance in the most games I can not just a few and at this time.

I am no nvidia fan boy over the year's of building and gaming on pc I had more ATi/AMD cards then nvidia still in the end this will be good for competition

The only way they can respond to GCN (or Fiji specifically) being 'unlocked' by Vulkan / DX12 is gimping. GameWorks seems to be on its way out for major new titles (UbiSoft are dropping it entirely).

Pascal is Maxwell with higher clocks, and slightly less broken emulation of a-synch compute (which I suspect could be backported via firmware / drivers to Maxwell but won't be).

As I said before, it's going to be a very long 2 years until Volta, for NVIDIA. Particularly with VEGA & NAVI both scheduled to launch before it.

it's good that we have so many Nvidia experts who know exactly what the company is going to do. No point waiting for actual action! :D

I was enjoying my 970 card, without caring about benchmarks :)

Sometimes life is much simpler if you do that. :)

My Z77 mobo has just given up the ghost and I am on my Holibobs next week so I will be in France planning a new SFF build while pretending to enjoy the sunshine :p

On that note - anyone got an SFF build (Probably looking at MATX, not ITX) built within a Corsair Carbide Air 240. If so, what you got in it. I need some advice and pointers as I have never done an SFF before or watercooled anything.:D

Sorry to hijack this thread, but there is much more going on in here than most other areas and lots of experienced peeps to get advice from. :)

They're not going to magic up a new architecture ... the only options they have until Volta are price cuts, and clock increases (if and when process improves).

I think it's very unlikely they die shrink Pascal to 10nm and give it a new name, in the interim. They'll hit the same problems then as they are doing now with Pascal, if they do - expensive, low yield wafers with way too much competition for the limited supply.

PERFORMANCE FIX FOR NVIDIA USERS: READ READ READ

Sorry about the caps, that was to draw attention.

To get better performance Vulkan has to be installed on your pc first. To do this go into C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\Installer2\Display.Driver, then install it from there.

After I installed this my GTX 1070 was putting out an average extra 30fps frames, maxed out at 1080p.

Oh wow that explains where 7GB of SSD space went lol - I've 3 years worth of nVidia driver temp files in there :| used to clear them out the old temp but had no idea they were building up in there.

Does nothing for Vulkan though still not seeing gains which isn't surprising as I had Vulkan installed correctly already by the drivers and the same version.

Good tip, thank you :)

That's given me a nice boost... I was averaging between 90-100FPS with everything on nightmare/top settings. Now I'm getting 130-140FPS.

That's at 2560x1440 :)

I'd still like to do our own video comparisons for fun. 4k should be close. That's the one I'm most interested in since 1080p and 1440p were really fast even before.

My challenge is on anytime any day. I know i will beat your benchmark ,however, it is just matter of time when you post.

Digitalfoundry's benches show decent improvements on nvidia aswell..

on vulkan both AMD and Nvidia are gaining. AMD is gaining much more ,however, Nvidia Sean said that they are due with Game Ready so see lets what kind of performance improvement that brings.

No gains for me from doing this :(

Holy Greg, I first thought that was a joke, but it's real. Seems like there is some serious driver installing issue. Explains why some people don't have any improvements and some have decent.

I ran it without recording and from doing this god awful run time and again, knew instantly that the gains were real. 30% plus gains at times, which is incredible. I can't believe it doesn't install from the NVidia drivers. Such a shame and a free boost is always welcome.
