Doom Vulkan vs Open GL performance

I am confused, so far it's been shouted how Nvidia cards won't see any performance gains with Vulkan since they don't implement that darn async stuff.

Now people with the actual driver installed see quite a jump ... so :

1. that async thing really is irrelevant as in really not an issue for Nvidia cards at all.
2. Nvidia cards do get a jump in Vulkan due to other things - and Nvidia was saying before we will see jumps and never mentioned the async compute thing so that turns out not to be a lie like it's been shouted already. Still weird to see jumps since NVidia is still working on their side of things.

it's interesting to see what those vocal ones have to say about it, just curious really.

I meant even if his report was wrong, others are reporting gains so I am still confused how is that possible. There shouldn't be any gains. I expected to see gains when Nvidia is ready with their side of things, not before.

Well lets hope there is in the near future :)

Ofc there can be gains from Vulkan. Nvidia doesn't have async support yes, but that would only give roughly ~10% extra. Is scenes where you are cpu bound you can see benefits.

I have a 1080 (X99, 5930k @ 4.25, 64GB) with vsync enabled @ 3440x1440, vulkan seems a lot smoother and I'm seeing different effect on the graphics which give a distinct improvement. Obviously I see 60fps whatever I run but vulkan has a nice and welcome wow this is much nicer feel to it.

have you tried to unlock your fps and see what numbers you get? I had to turn both vsync and gsync off before that happened.

on vulkan both AMD and Nvidia are gaining. AMD is gaining much more ,however, Nvidia Sean said that they are due with Game Ready so see lets what kind of performance improvement that brings.

I thought the definition of 'game ready' is game ready at/before release :p

But yeah, don't hold your breath. We are still waiting for that magic Maxwell async compute support

Nvidia released its game ready driver.
