DPD - Rant

Dpd have done a great one on me.

Had a parcel to return to Amazon with thousands of pounds of camera gear. Organised a return and next day DPD delivered a parcel from amazon and said there was one to collect. Handed it over got a collection card.

Checked online a few days later and my amazon return was still showing as not been collected. Checked card left with Dpd and they had delivered it to a laundry company next day in Durham. Turns out Dpd had been organised by this company in durhamto come and collect a parcel from me but that company had never told me they were doing that, had been arguing with them for weeks over the quality of some goods. Dpd driver didn’t even read the address and barcode on my parcel and just took it.

Rang Dpd customer services, explained what had happened, they said they would go and collect it and return it back to me.

I rang the business they dropped it off at and a very kind woman in the accounts office went and found it for me and said nobody had known what to do with it as it just had an amazon number and barcode on it. Told her Dpd were coming to collect it and she put my name and address on it.

Two days later no parcel so contact Dpd again. Get put through to Durham depot manager who apologises and can’t explain why it wasn’t collected yet, swears it will be done that day, he will personally see to it.

Two days later no parcel so contact Dpd again. This time they tell me the parcel still hasn’t been collected and won’t be as on neither of the two occasions did I formally start an investigation and until an investigation had been carried out to find the parcel, which takes up to five days, untilthen it won’t be collected. I asked how to star5 an investigation and she told me I would have the ring the business number. I asked her for it and she said she isn’t allowed to tell me it, it would have been given to me when I opened the account. Explained I don’t have an account so hence don’t know the numbe.. Eventually she agrees to take the details to start the investigation. Meanwhile Hermes turn up 10 days after I organised a return to collect the parcel back to amazon. He wasn’t happy that it wasn’t here any more.

Fed up, I do a bit of googling and discover the name and email of the head of customer services as she had just been at a prize giving for receiving the award for the best customer services, three years in a row.

Email her, detailing all of the above and pointing out that everybody knows where the parcel is so no need for an investigation and the first solution offer two weeks ago tha5 it gets returned is perfectly fine.

She apologise and says she is in meetings all day but will get so,embody straight on it. Later that day get an email saying they had been in touch with the business where the parcel got delivered, have arranged for local depot to collect and deliver back to. Sorrry, sorry, sorry.

Next day no parcel and drop head of customer services an email saying I thought I would have had the parcel back by especially giving the circumstances and the fact time was running out to return it back to amazon. She agreed and was puzzled as to why I hadn’t and would get back to me.

Next day comes back and says their driver has definitely collected it and she even spoke to the lady at the business who confirmed it was collected but now they can longer find any trace in their system.

Roll on today and I get another email that despite sending out a request for a depot search it has come back with nothing and the parcel is now officially lost.

I am now in the situation where Dpd is contacting amazon to explain they have lost the parcel and that amazon needs to claim from them for the loss and refund me.

Meanwhile somebody at Dpd has a brand new Sony a7iii and several lens.

I’ve not had a bad experience with DPD so far touch wood. The local driver is nice and friendly and often bump into him at the local curry house. Like the tracking and it’s normally pretty accurate.

Yodel are the only delivery firm that have let me down a few times. Last time they managed to loose a 2x3 foot table. I try to avoid them like the plague.

Yodel is crap.
They dump in the open, behind empty bins or on the front porch their package regardless if it is raining. You cannot imagine how many times came home couple of hours later and found books completely soggy -_-

Hermes on Xmas left on my front door one case of beer, it was a gift from one of my suppliers. At least the bottles where there still four weeks later when I came from holidays. The case though was ruined.
Good though because I came from 18C to -5C that night and needed WD40 to use my home door lock, and cold lager after all those hours flying was godsend...

DPD is good but their guys are exposed to hellish criteria just like any other courier service and unfortunately that means the occasional screw-up.
Let's not forget DPD is the very company that sanctioned one of their drivers for taking a day off sick - only for him to die from diabetes which he couldn't treat because DPD were putting almighty pressure on him.

It's not all roses. Remember the human.

The only problem I have with these delivery companies is the wild estimated delivery times, which are usually from 8am until 10pm lol.

Also you can't always send things to a drop-off location for whatever reason.

The problem with all these big companies now is they run with bare minimum staff. Then punish people for taking time off or being slightly late. It's pretty ridiculous. The times they have to keep encourage speeding as well. The culture of profit over staff needs to go.

Saw an early 20's DPD guy at the weekend doing rounds with what appeared to be his 2 or 3 year old son - he stopped to deliver some parcels to an off license. Clearly multitasking the Dad role along with his job. He looked run off his feet but at least his son was helpful in carrying a few small things :p.

First ever problem with DPD just now. Delivery guy drove up, took a picture of the buildings opposite ours, drove off and then I get a notification that there was nobody available...

DPD have made me rage this week. I ordered something and chose to pay for next day delivery as its an important car part and I needed it for weekend. The result is me still waiting 3 days later and my parcel on some kind of magical mystery tour.

At NO point did I request my item to go to HALFORDS in Grantham.

I've not once contacted DPD to request different days or locations. Infact I tried to contact them to ask where the hell my stuff is, but after 30 mins and an email I gave up.
