Dragon Age Inquisition

Stuttering on screenshots stopped when i updated Nvidia drivers for me.

With regards to the UI it's clearly created for consoles, it could be so much better but its acceptable. I tried with a pad and i didn't like it.

Yeah it's clearly geared for a gamepad. I switched to mine and honestly I haven't looked back (and I say this as a diehard m+kb guy). The only thing I miss is Quicksave so I need to do it manually but the game autosaves so often anyway it aint a big deal.

Think I'm about 8 hours in and just got my first new companions as I've spent this entire time in Hinterlands exploring. God that area is humongous, and I still haven't cleared it as some areas are 12+. Unbelievable.

Yeah.

When I bumped into my first dragon there and it kicked my arse I knew it wasn't like the previous games and I'd have to level up and come back later.

I spent the majority of my time playing MP for this. :o

Luckily I did though, because I found a new love for the Reaver, so re-rolled my Rogue into a Warrior now playing through again, got to level 7 I think. Trying to take my time with it as there's nothing else really around to play, so hoping this will be something that will keep me amused for a few weeks.

Meh, the opening certainly hasn't gripped me and I'm not feeling an awful lot of DA:O vs DA2 in this.

Might be a touch early for some humour or intelligent/witty comments just walking around but it's been devoid of much charm in the first hour or two. UI, DA2 with minor changes, the abilities trees are terrible and clunky, gear selection, codex/journal, tactical view are all awful, lack of proper gear again. Weapons/armour in DA:O were great, it was awful in DA2, so they've kept pretty much the DA2 system, major major mistake there. The simplified/stupified leveling and some pretty boring looking magic trees. Storm spell is passive and will randomly go off, seriously... I mean....... seriously????!!!?!???!!

Even though DA2 was dumbed down at least it has some fun stuff like putting in a huge ass storm and lightning cloud together, now storm cloud is a passive spell? Chain lightning is the first spell you start with, normal lightning is further down the tree, the tree ends with a CC skill and the most uber skill, storm cloud has been removed and turned into a passive..... at face value that seems like every single decision made completely wrong in the tree.

Some of the graphics are god awful as well, faces of people "in the crowd" at a certain point early on were disgracefully poor, laughably poor. It was like characters from a 10 year old game stuck inside this to save time, maybe, hopefully that was more of a graphical bug rather than intentional.

Far too early to judge it and in a bad mood in general(neighbours making life hell and depressing at the moment), but nothing early on has remotely made me go "ah, they've gone back towards DA:O with this", and outside of the general maps/enviroment not being well, grey and dull like DA2, nothing else has so far stood out as a massive improvement.

Then the cutscenes, which aren't infrequent in a game like this, are a stuttering mess for a hell of a lot of people because they arbitrarily capped it's frame rate for no reason at all.

Played for an hour last night, not sure why but i'm struggling a little with the controls (KB+M) I'll give a controller a go tonight. A little boring to begin with, but it's just setting the pace. Looks good, runs well on my PC, I get between 60-70FPS, though cutscenes are locked at 30 FPS which is noticeable and the game seems to grind to a halt switching from gameplay to cutscene which is a little jarring.

I make no judgements yet, it would be like judging an epic book on the opening paragraph!

Apparently disabling origin overlay improves FPS? Haven't tried myself yet but others could give it a try!

A post from the thread

Before change: 38.5 avg 27.8 minimum. After change: 43.7 avg 35.6 minimum.
Definitely a huge improvement, especially on those minimums.

Apparently fraps also causes stuttering?, I've been running it so will again check to see if that improves things.

Generally speaking I'm getting around 50-55 fps Maxed out (no aa) on my 970's at 4k. If these fixes boost it up close to 60fps I won't complain :)
