Dragon Age: The Veilguard

We’ve moved away from simply not liking something because it doesn’t jive with you. You need it to actively fail and take pleasure from it
I’m only speaking for myself here, but I’ve mentioned numerous times that I don’t want to dislike a game, overly criticise it or poke fun at it, and certainly don’t want studios to close with the loss of talented people, but the way things are going its inevitable.
Look at Concord and Dustborn just to name 2, then you’ve got assassins creed next year and this probable dumpster fire.
Obviously the studios can’t cater for everyone, but for gods sake pandering to a minuscule demographic because Sweet baby inc has infiltrated the studio won’t and hasn’t ended well. The sales figures speak for themselves.
Make good games, people will buy them and studios will flourish.

Not exactly rocket science is it?

People love to be outraged, on either side of the argument. We’ve moved away from simply not liking something because it doesn’t jive with you. You need it to actively fail and take pleasure from it - as it’s been evident in multiple threads the past few months.

Not just games either. Look at the movies area of the forum, lots or discussion about how much money (or not) movies are making, which didn't seem like a big talking point just a few short years ago.

People spend waaaay too much time trashing things they don't even watch or play, it's a strange use of ones time.

From the amount of laughing emojis you’ve used in this thread alone, I think you are lying to yourself.

Sorry if that’s not your intention, but it’s certainly how you’ve been coming across to myself at least.

Now what could have possibly changed from a few short years ago?
It’s a real puzzler that one.

I've been trying to work it out too. From what I gather, i THINK it's because they use language like they/them instead of he/she/her/him? I might be wrong though.
I honestly couldn't give a hoot about that; it's fantasy RPG, so if I can accept dwarves with flames ejaculating out their axe then I can accept them referring to themselve as "they" as they go about it.

I just want to know if it can pound 70+Hz at 4k and look all lovely and vibrant. :)

Hang on, don't be misrepresenting people here, they USED to watch/play that stuff.

Edit: The people that spent all their spare time trashing media that we used to like be like:

You’re correct in that I’m not going to play it, absolutely correct, like you couldn’t be more correct.
Why on gods green earth would I?
Stalker 2 however, briiiing it on.

Well go and post in the Stalker thread then? You have 2 posts there.

This thread, of a game you don't intend to play ever? 37 posts.

Do you see what I mean?

Have you not seen the screenshots, or videos? The characters certainly don’t look lovely. Lifeless play dough faces.
High-school level writing. High-refresh won’t save it.

I’ve never played the previous DragonAge games - is this one that you can ‘jump right in” without playing previous?

For the most part yes - there is some story you might not understand, such as some of the characters including one of the big 'villains' Solas who was in the previous game(s) - but lore aside, it will be a fairly self-contained game with some back story from the previous games. But very few choices are carried forward.

I did intend to until I saw it, then yikes!
I really hope you enjoy it though, I think you’ll get along just fine together.

You mean like people in this thread that are clearly offended by an lgbtq+ agenda that doesn't fit their own? I have no skin in the game but like ive said in another comment, based on comments some people here seem to be missing a distinction between inclusion and terrible writing. The inclusion and diversity "agenda" is not an issue, the issue is incompetence in the way it is handled by the writers of some media. If it is well written as said it feels natural and normal and you wont even think about or notice it. Complain about terrible writing, not and lgbtq+ agenda.

They are intrinsically linked, these studios use equality of outcome hiring practices, what that means is they hire based not on merit but on identity, this by its nature is also activism and with that you get activists using the media as a propaganda tool.

People identify the identity politics in it because it is overtly political, it is designed to be identified, it is deliberately rammed down your throat so don't be surprised that people identify what is meant to be identified and reject it.

And this is very real, its so real its killing these studios.

Good riddance, NEXT....

By the Maker's Panties, I must pull a barve and do ten push-ups immediately as punishment, because I fear I don't like this game.

And I know that a sorry is not enough.

*Kelt goes to...ahem...pull his barve*"

Would you say the diversity of characters in baldurs gate 3 or in mass effect was an issue? If not then its not an issue of identity politics its an issue of hack writers.
I agree there is an issue with this happening in a lot of media but im trying to say the issue itself is not the idea behind the inclusivity itself but that the writers for these projets are bad writers, there are plenty of examples where its not horrific like in this game. Arguing against woke propaganda and identity politics doesn't win allies or sound great, the focus should be on attacking the quality of the work. "hey, the writing for this game is terrible, the characters arent believable and the interactions feel like something from a kids educational tv show, there's no conflict and it feels like its trying to be some utpoia where nobody has any personality flaws".

In Baldur's Gate 3 you could be evil and slaughter them all or basically tell them to politely go away ;)
In Dragon Age Veilguard you have to repent your sins, and do ten push ups as sorry just isn't enough

Again I have no issue with this being in the game IF you can be completely against in GAME. But the creators behind DA will never allow that
