Dragon Age: The Veilguard

May contain mild swearing

Some more scenes/writing coming in now... As one person puts it " How did this get approved ? "

" Tarsh? Is one of the WORST characters in video game history "

Ouch

I wonder why this obsession with validating your feelings that something is crap. I mean have you bought and tried the game, or just have some weird obsession to prove to everyone it’s crap? Move on with your life and play a game you bought and like FFS. You aren’t going to suddenly make those of us enjoying it just enough to play it that we are wrong.

Anyway.......

I've watched all the review videos and wanted to try it myself, see if it was really that bad and

PROS

The scenery is stunning and can be really taken in at times
Graphics are very decent overall and you can see a lot of love has gone into the game in that aspect
The music/soundtrack is another big plus point
Lots of graphical options including DLSS/FG
The combat is fun (when you can see what is going on)
Weapons , armor and spells look great

CONS

Terrible dialogue/writing across the board with character narration being sub par. I mean seriously, you can just tell they are reading from a bad script rather than pulling you into character development and feeling for the character you are talking to.
Awful character facial animation at times, with mouth movement not fitting the voices.
The choices you make have no impact and don't fit the decision you make when responding or questioning anyone. For example if I called someone a right ***, your character would say something like " I don't agree with you ". THAT IS NOT WHAT I JUST SAID! <-- This is a major turn off for me and it happens throughout the game. As one person puts it "- (Safe, boring and always way to damn positive. Unrealistic).
The forced ideology in the game and hand holding has taken priority. But I knew this already It's still a massive con!
Puzzles are so bad and easy, that i don't know why they are in the game at all

If you fixed the poor characters, writing and forced ideology this game would be a 8/10 ( NOT A GOTY ). But it's a 3/10 and I just refunded under the 2 hour game play time.

It's like I've ordered Dragon Age Veilguard from Amazon, but the parcel arrived from Wish

I know, stick with creatures with big pointy ears, lizard/cat people and beings that can conjure god like magic. Oh and throw in the odd flying devil like person with horns. You know perfectly normal every day things.

What a peculiar thing to get annoyed at.

Oh I am not annoyed at it, not in the slightest, just strikes me as a peculiar thing to be in a fantasy RPG, I could see it fitting in perfectly well within a gameworld and game design such as Disco Elysium for example, I actually think it would work very well within that game design, but a game of Dragon Ages design just seems a peculiar place for the topic.

But it’s a fantasy RPG, so full of weird and different. It’s no different than gay characters in games or movies.

I don’t mean it in a “that’s just tolerance” way, but in a who gives a crap way. Like in a “it doesn’t impact me, so knock yourself out” way. Then again I suppose I just described tolerance?

Some would read that as you saying that trans are weird and different :D

No, I get it, I get what you are saying about dragons and magic etc, its just that a fantasy RPG with Dragon Ages design and game mechanics seems an odd place to have a piece of text about self analysis of what trans is and that a trans woman is a woman and the nature of body dysmorphia...whereas in a game design of say Disco Elysium, where the entire game mechanics encircle the characters self analysing and thought processes to understand the world around them, such a topic would fit very well. I dont mean that the topic itself is peculiar, I only mean that its peculiar to be in this particular game design as it doesnt seem to fit to me (certainly not as well as it would in something like The Council or Disco Elysium)

It doesnt annoy me nor do I find it an issue and nor does it affect my enjoyment level of the game, its merely an odd decision to include within this gameworld/design to me.

I know, it’s so easy to end up offending people who go out of the way to be offended. :)

To be fair I have no time for people who go out of their way to be offended regardless of their “identity politics”.

I always say that nobody can cause you offence only you can take offence. Meaning that the offence is created by the person offended rather than the alleged offender.

Hence , I dont get offended :)

If only it were that simple. Sometimes being offended is perfectly warranted.
