Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Large quantities of effort and time?

You and a couple of other 'all comment/no playtime' posters sure do seem to have a lot to say on something, repeatedly, without having any experience to back it up although 'low effort and zero time' might be more appropriate. Either way, it helps others understand how valuable your feedback is.

Lots of experience we have all seen these lousy DEI products before.

Oh, but we do dear.
We've looked at the videos, read the reviews and seen the sales figures, so yes, it's fair to say we have all the "experience" we need to avoid this dumpster fire of a so called game.
And we're the stupid one's for not buying it? Give me break.

The route andromeda (disclaimer I've only watched reviews of this game) took, now DA has kind of made me think ME is going to be a disaster also.
TBF to Andromeda, it wasn't bad IMHO, at least from what I can remember. And ME:3 got a lot of stick too. I stopped playing ME:A, partly because a save game bug broke my save and forced me to roll back a good bit which ****** me off royally, and I also wasn't gripped by it as I was by the main trilogy. That might be because I was more invested with the trilogy.
DA:I was the same for me, I just stopped playing - though again TBF, it's something I've done more and more over the years with a lot of games, even ones I do enjoy.

No, you're not stupid for not buying it, you're stupid for having such strong opinions based on someone else's experience. There's a difference.

You’re calling me stupid for not buying something that I’d clearly not enjoy?
Really?
Actually I’ll edit this..
So I’m stupid for not having the same views as you?
I’m detecting buyers remorse.

You raised the stupidity question, not me but yes, I think it's odd to have very strong feelings about a thing you haven't even played. I think it's very odd to wish people didn't have jobs based on someone else's opinion too. It's pathetic not stupid so I stand corrected.

Would you spend say £30K on a car blindly or look at reviews of said car?
Games are no different, especially when they’re the price they are these days.
Not everyone can afford that much to just fritter away on a poor product.
Also, you’ve now called me stupid and pathetic.
Chuck the shovel up when you’ve finished.

I suppose it's smarter to blindly drop £70 on a game without taking any notice of reviews, or doing any reserach, or using your experience of games gathered over decades...

No, I agree with you on this. You, Jon and Kelt will almost definitely not enjoy the game. It's actually not that great a game, as I said before, but it's pretty good and is very okay at what it tries to do.

The bit most reasonable people could take exception to is the review bombing especially when you haven't got anything to base that review on. Do you see that or not?

No, I agree with you! That would be stupid. But I wouldn't then go on Autotrader and post constant negative opinions on the car which I hadn't even driven.

e2: to add to your post which you've now edited.

I trhink most reasonable people could equally take exception to the clearly shill reviews seen from mainstream outlets...

Do you see that?

I do and I said this earlier, the Eurogamer review in particular being fawning to a point where it felt very off. I think we disagree on the 'shill' description because the game has not been universally loved and promoted as GOTY material but I get the sentiment.

I just don't get why people go after something so hard, so furiously, without playing the damn thing! You talk about DEI (a few times), Kelt has outright gone off script and said the quiet parts out loud and Jon is picking up the slack. What is you guys actually want?

You will always get this with Bioware games, its the same with Blizzard the fanbase has high expectations and passion just based on how well they have delivered in the past, Bioware pretty much nailed the CRPG market on PC for a Dragon Age excuse the pun, nobody was even close with their D&D games especially for multiplayer. Title after title they were beloved by fans, and with that success came a passionate fan base and when the disappointment comes it grates on how far they have fallen.

Hopes of a recovery for Blizzard is coming, at least since the Microsoft buyout, Rumours of a WC2 remaster is getting the fans going to be supposedly be announced at the Warcraft Direct conference, and possibly a real classic + for WoW I hope. Diablo is doing pretty well now too. They are a studio that are beginning to realise and start listening to people that actually buy their products, its not about the diversity, its about making games great again :p;):D

One of the main things this game has done, is expose many gaming review sites as being nothing more than a publisher mouthpiece.
This game has no business having the Dragon Age name slapped on it, and it absolutely isn't the triumphant return to form, that so many independent reviewers told us it was.

Make a new class of games, "teen writers" or "Tumblr approved", and don't drag existing franchises into that class.
It's nice that we're seeing so many high profile flops this year. 2024 has been a year of people saying "no thanks" to nonsense.
