Dredd trailer

Top movie, talk of 2 more big screen movies. I wonder if they do the DARK JUDGES if they will follow the comics and have them come from another dimension or something a little less out there. So many stories and characters.
Satanus anyone?

Can't do Necropolis properly without having the Dark Judges first (gaze into the fist of Dredd!) followed by all the stuff around the Dead Man and the flawed Dredd clone.

Block Mania would be too big. Would like to see them do America but it's too political.

There was a great cross-over comic of Dredd and Batman. That would be fun!

I watched Dredd on Friday and the Raid on Saturday. There are similarities with the two films but Dredd is a much better film. I found the Raid to be ridiculous. It wasn't rubbish but the fight scenes were too OTT. That might be the point but after a while they became tiresome to watch.

Double take time here - you think The Raid's fight scenes were OTT?

You maybe missed the brutal intensity, utterly amazing choreography and jaw-dropping athleticism on display?

I will eat my hat if anything in Dredd comes even close to the true-life Silat Martial Arts on show in The Raid. From what I saw of the trailer it looked like a FX-laden B-movie reject (although it is heartening to see that is has actually received a good reception, so I was considering watching it).

The 3D was "Depth Perception" rather than "Stuff in your face" and worked really well, you don't really notice most of it it's that well done!

So you are damning a film you have not seen? Interesting.
I will assume you will hate it, simple NLP.

I do appreciate all of those things but after a while I got bored of the fight scenes, they went on too long. At first I was thinking, wow this is brilliant, but I soon felt I'd seen enough as they went on an on and just became tiresome.

Yes they were OTT, maybe that's the point, but I generally find martial arts films a little boring.

The similarities with Dredd are that it has police, a tall building, a villain, lots of violence and a decent soundtrack. The trailers do not do Dredd justice.... But for me, Dredd was a better film, by a long way.

I love martial arts films, samurai films etc, but even I found The Raid fights over long and boring, very disappointed watching it.

Managed to see Dredd in 2D and loved it, although I didn't find it anywhere near as brutal as people keep suggesting it is.

Watched this last night with the missus, two words...******* brilliant. I grew up with Dredd so was praying this would do him justice and it did in spades. 3D was actually very good and rather than being there because its the 'in' thing, it adds to the violence in an interesting way.

All this talk of this and The Raid if boring now, two different films so go watch it, it's cracking :)

Watched it last night. Pretty darn good actually.

The good
- Urban nails it. Dredd really is a bad mutha
- Thirlby is also very good, as is Leana Heady
- Nice to see a bit of down and dirty violence in a PG world
- Pleasingly nihilistic tone

The not so good
- I didn't particularly like the depiction of Mega City One. Too light and airy
- The budget seriously creaks at times
- The price of the directness of the script is that the story is a bit one-note at times
- It really is insanely similar to The Raid. Like almost beat for beat at times.
- The 3D is a bit pants

I'd love to see it make enough money for a sequel but I'm not sure it will. I can't really see how they would get the Dark Judges in there. Appreciate the introduction of Judge Anderson suggests this is where they're going, but I don't see how you establish a realistic world like that and then introduce the supernatural. It would be a marked change in tone

i think a lot of people don't get this still
the bits popping out are for kids films and animation really
depth clarity is what they are after in most other films

it worked so well on the slo mo taking scenes

Seen this yesterday, was awesome! I was expecting it to be pretty average but the slow motion violence was pretty damn impressive! added so much to the film. 3D was good but I don't think I would've complained if it was in 2D.

good interview if you haven't already seen it.. talks about how he tried to make it an epic story with the dark judges and why he had to change it.

**contains swearing** :eek::p

It angers me that vacuous dross makes a profit and something as good as this will barely break even.

Me too, it deserves to do well and get a better marketing push. It looks like it hasn't been released yet in the States (IMDB says 21 September) so the general lack of buzz might be because of that.

Megacity 1 wasnt futuristic enough. They could have squeezed a Blockwar in there somewhere too. People driving around in 80's VW vans :(

However Urban was great as Dredd, no one feared him though. Everyone knows who Dredd is and when they know its him they fear him.

Nice homage to Ch:)pper too.

I liked the tech, sort of old future, I doubt vehicle designs would change that much.

They feared Dredd in the end. I like that they didnt though, nice he becomes famous then he loses his majesty, you' have everyone running away from him or it becomes kind of a farce.
