Drive - Movie Thread.

I'm on the fence on the this one, I cant decide which side to fall off.

///spoilers

Instance of it seem to be brilliant, others seem contrived, and oh so dull.
Gosling seem to be a virtual psycho stalker on his neighbour yet she didn't seem to think this half mute lunatic was anything other than mysterious, and who the hell drives someone to a crappy sewer island and doesn't think they're going to be murdered and dumped in the back of his motor.
Him being a stuntman was not looked into at all, it didn't portray him enough as a getaway driver either except for the first 5 minutes, it seemed like a good start then strange silence love doveyness for 45minutes, followed by a complete flipside to a man who was clearly trying to bang the blonde chick become friends with the jailbird dad, into some revenge movie. Gosling said he never carried a gun, yet he forgot to mention he was a stone faced killer. :D

That said, I like it but I cant put a finger on why.

I did love the soundtrack although it did seem to make me think I should be watching and 80s film, but the directing was good, and the general story was ok.

it's not perfect, certain things, the pawn shop heist and the ending could've been better but the atmosphere of the way it is shot, coupled with the perfect soundtrack made that a great viewing experience.

What was it about those two parts you didn't like?

What? Was one of the best endings I've seen in AGES!

So much tension between the 2 characters and that shot that just holds on Gosling's face for what seems an eternity is genius.

Another amazing day at the box office for Drive.

Outsold Warrior - 85k to 76k

Drive playing at 176 locations compared to Warrior's 383. Very impressive for what's an art house film on a Monday!

What was it about those two parts you didn't like?

the pawn shop heist - serious lack of tension, i would've atleast like to have seen him fire some shots back! then the part in the motel? oh look, i'm in the bathroom, oh look, my heads been blown off! didn't work, could've been better.

the end - the scene where he crashes into the car and the beach scene were below par. the car park scene felt a little cheap, too. you can't run a film with that much atmosphere and then end in such poor fashion.

The lack of tension was the whole point - the amount of people that jumped out of their seat when the gunshot went off was an indication of how well that scene had been directed and how unexpected the turn of events were.

As I said above, I think the ending is genius. Justified above...

watched this last night, and WOW, incredible!

echoing what Gustov says above about people jumping at the gunshot, i literally **** myself :D

people actually think this is the best film of the year?

Wait wut?

SPOILERS!!

First 5 mins I was excited then nothing happened for exactly 55 minutes (at this point only 35 mins left of the film)

In the next 35 mins everything either happens too fast or too slow. This film to me stinks of the director over indulging in what they want to do. Over use of slow motion then put it next to a piece of fast action = tension? no thanks you'll have to do better than that.

And people raving about the soundtrack? It's just electro babble.

Went to see this with some mates, expecting a good film due to hearing about some good reviews.

Not completely what I expected since didnt look into it much.
But damn very good film.
Loved the very first heist in the beginning, totally gripped.
Became a bit slow, but as someone else said it exploded.

Loved the sewer/levee driving where The Driver's face just lights up with blonde girl and her kid.
The robbery shooting made me hit the roof.
Amazing ending.
Great soundtrack that includes some great electro/house.

Shame me and my mates where pretty much 50/50 on who liked it and disliked it but what can you do.

Would love to see it again in the cinema.

Not sure why but all the films that win loads of awards I dislike: Juno was crap, so was Avatar, The Kings Speech and Black Swan.

From the trailer I can tell I'm going to hate this too, but I'll give it a chance

So you hated a good drama, a popcorn fest, a dark thriller and one of the best biopics you're likely to see.

What do you like?

Oh btw, this outsold Warrior by 20k last night :)

It was alright more style over substance and what was with all the slow lingering shots on gosling? it was like the running time was a bit short i know we will just linger on goslings face for the whole film lol.

i thought it was pants tbh the trailer is the complete oposite of what the movie is actually like.........

The trailer makes it look like an action based popcorn flick.

It's an art house film.

Pwned.

The style is the substance! By substance do you mean 'action' ?
