Drop your prices Nvidia. Please?

Thing is when Intel / Nvidia are ahead, I get high end stuff for LESS that it would have cost me if it was made by AMD.
What we need is for some GPU manufacturer to rise up and give competition to AMD and Nvidia, totally sucked when 3DFX was snatched by Nvidia, would have rather seen them bought out by a company who would have kept them running and use the technology they had to compete against Nvidia and ATI. Pity Intel didn't really, I bet they wish they had now, hopefully they will catchup soon enough, I wonder how long before Nvidia bring out a CPU as good as any AMD CPU...

Once upon a time yes, but with later drivers and GHZ editions the GTX 670 / 680's just don't have anything anymore (
Other than Physx ) But even AMD are doing the same thing with their own game titles now.

Even an overclocked GTX 670 vs overclocked 7950 is a match.

The idea that Nvidia out perform AMD is very much the mindset, so i have no doubt Nvidia are selling very well despite the over inflated prices.

I remember someone posted a similar graph before showing the 7970 destroying a 680 in bf3 saying amd drivers have improved. I went and found a newer review which stated newest drivers were used on all cards and naturally the results were complete opposite, even the stock 680 beat an overclocked 7970. Will have to try and find it again. I was going to reply that time but didn't want to start a war :D

Reviews contradict each other so much its just not feasible that cards can give such different results, there's undoubtedly biased review sites out there.

Unless there's a specific feature you need, yes.
In the previous gen I think Eyefinity would had been it, but this new gen Nvidia cards can run 3 screens on one card as well. For computing stuff though the 79xx is on a stronger position than Nvidia in this gen, but for people that don't use it for that purpose and only used for gaming and general usage, rather than being an advantage, they would probably see the extra power consumption and heat as disadvantage.

What do you mean by computing stuff? I've used the boinc stuff before, and I've heard of nv accelerating Photoshop, but not really seen anything from AMD?

Adobe has been working more closely with AMD starting with CS6 it seems:

GIMP and HandBrake are also getting OpenCL acceleration too.

This will benefit Nvidia and Intel too, although OpenCL support on the current AMD GPUs seems quite good.

My GTX 670 doesn't heat my room up at all. Got it running at 1240 / 7500 Mhz, plus a 4.4 Ghz Intel 980 and my room temperature isn't affected at all. Don't underestimate how useful lower power consumption and temperatures are for gaming in a normal room without air conditioning. I hate having to play games inside an oven due to the amount of heat most graphics cards normally put out.

From a watt / temperature to performance level, Nvidia are the clear winners this round, I'll enjoy gaming in comfort while current AMD users endure their gaming room being heated up to 25+ degrees.

Its also funny seeing anyone with an AMD CPU arguing about AMD GPUs having better performance. You know that by pairing an AMD CPU and GPU, you are going to have significantly worse performance in 99% of modern games than an Intel CPU + Nvidia or AMD GPU right?

Agreed on Intel being the wiser choice no matter which GPU you use but stating AMD cards heat up a room more than nvidia is just trolling.

Plenty of people I know have overclocked GTX570 and GTX580 cards which were fine for yonks even in summer.

I don't see them complaining too much about power consumption and heat problems.

Moreover,if you are that panicked about heat, then run your CPU at stock clockspeeds. IB and SB consume far less power and produce far less heat overall than a overclocked 980X.

Only someone one like me who uses SFF PCs,needs to really worry about the TDP and power consumption of graphics cards.

Very interesting read, those are some incredible jumps in performance over just the cpu.

True prices are a bit high for nvidia but i still wouldnt go amd i just dont like their drivers or options in the drivers and i know i will have a solid card if i go nvidia but i wouldnt with amd. I think nvidia know people will pay for the quality of nvidia cards as i could have went with a much more stronger amd card recently but i went with a 570 for 2nd hand price of 130 as it wasnt a bad price for a 570 tbh but the other reason is i know they are solid cards and the driver/options etc.

I bet nvidia will still outsell amd tbh even with the prices the way they are, amd are getting desperate with a price war but i fear even this will not force nvidia to drop the prices because i bet many are like me and will go with them regardless of the price (within reason). The 2nd hand market is also very good for nvidia as well so that also wont help amd.

I really would have liked a 660 ti card but i was only willing to cough up £130-140 for one but the prices for em are really high which didnt help me which is why i went with a 570 as best card i think i could get for a nvidia at the time a few weeks back. I was hoping maybe some on MM going for what i could afford but i never saw em and i doubt the prices would have even reached 140 used for one. But a 570 will do untill i see the 660 ti go down in price next year at which point i probs can sell my 570 for 100 and put a extra 40-50 towards a 660 ti next year which i hope they will be around by then. If not ill just wait till they do or untill the next gen cards push the prices down of the 660 ti to what i think are reasonable prices for one even tho they wont be the latest gen by then but they will still be reliable rock solid card to get by then.

I thought it was common knowledge that the quality of AMD 7xxx PCB and VRM was higher than the NV 6xx, hence the locking down of voltage increase.
As as fare as your personal opinion about drivers, that's upto you.

I think people should buy whatever is the most practical regardless of brand. Several years ago I was faced with a choice of using 3 x GTX 480s or 2 x HD 5970s. I often use nvidia but on this occassion it was a bit of a non contest I went with the HD 5970s and am still using them. I wounder how many people would have gone with 3 x GTX 480s with all the heat, noise and power consumption problems that go with it.

3 gtx480's is asking for a house fire.

I'm sure in one way or another Nvidia can justify their prices.
Suprised by some of the comments I've read in this thread as I've formed a negative impression of AMD at least in the short term. Reading some financial news recently (albeit I didn't examine it too closely), I got the impression the writing may be on the wall for AMD.Okay, that is probably an exaggeration but that must make their products less appealing? And what will happen beyond the current 7*** series, can they carry out R&D to the same levels in the future given the way things are going for them at the moment?

Companies do often make a comeback however, so who knows, but right now they don't seem in a good way.

Desperation is someone posting a dodgy benchmark in a "Drop your prices Nvidia please" thread. As others including myself have said, if they are selling well, why should they?
