Dune (2020) - Denis Villeneuve

I must admit, I was confused, as I thought they'd already made both parts at the same time, and were going to release them a year apart.
Its why i was very vexed over why certain characters were being stealthy hidden from us, but it simply appears they might not have been cast yet.

The early reports and production information did state it was all being done at the same time, they've changed tact along the way somewhere and not really made anyone aware.

I do worry due to the day 1 release on HBOMAX too that a lot of folks will simply pirate, killing a lot of revenue and making a sequel DOA :(

I think watching BR2049 at the cinema distracted me from my pre-conceived Gosling hate :D I was just immersed by the movie from the moment it started.

I've since watched it twice more on home setups and as you say, it just doesn't convey the same feel at all.

Dune looks like it will be epic as well - I expect it to bomb though as the story is a tough sell the average member of public.

I had some friends over a few weeks back who quite like sci fi and showed them the trailer, one was put off as soon as he saw Bautista and the other when he saw Momoa. While the ensemble cast is very high quality, a few actors folks don't like can really put people off the entire movie :(

Shame Bautista is great in BR2049. Momoa though has never really grabbed me i anything he’s been in.

I like Bautista in most he's done, he takes it all quite seriously.

Having seen Sicario and BR2049 I was blown away by the cinematography in both films. Villeneuve is possibly the best person to tackle a film like this at the moment.

Sicario is probably one of my favourite movies of all time and set me on the road with DV, he's a true visionary director and unlike Nolan, can actually convey decent emotion in his movies as well as spectacle.

I'm trying not to read/watch too much about it with the release so close, I failed and watched the last trailer when i was an adamant I wouldn't, then proceeded to watch it another 4 or 5 times, it's all looking fantastic so far.

I'm glad to see such positive comments, I also remember similar positivity around the first showing of The Last Jedi :D

I really can not wait.

The Times only gave it 2 out of 5, however they also gave The Last Jedi 5 out of 5 and called it the best movie in the SW franchise while saying Rogue One was terrible in the same paragraph.

it's important for a lot of reasons. As movie goers we get to vote directly with our cash being the main one.

Also interesting to see the box office is seeing high numbers for the premium imax format. 10% of box office.

My concern is that once it drops on HBOMax same time as US/UK release, a lot of folks will sack off the cinema and just get the 'free' version, I feel like they should be waiting maybe 6 -8 weeks before it goes to streaming if they don't want to eat into revenues.

My only disappointment...

No feyd

Otherwise rock solid, a few other minor quibbles but overall great stuff.

I've got a lot of love for Lynch Dune, must have watched 20+ times over the years, but realistically it verges b movie at times, sign of the times though. They did what they could when it was made.

Zimmers soundtrack was pleasantly understated I thought, much of the visuals felt quite far future with ship designs.

I could say loads more, good and bad but knackered, will revisit this when I'm more alert.

Oh yeah, felt a lot more book faithful than Lynch, a lot of smaller touches straight from the book that DL ignored. Only picked up on them as read it very recently.
