Dune: Part 2 (2024)

She'll be Princess Irulan (sp?) surely.

edit: sorry it says on wiki she's Alia. That must be a flash forward to Dune Messiah with prescience. Florence Pugh is Irulan apparently.

Florence Pugh has been cast from the start.

It only makes sense that one of the key characters in the next film (book) is her. They'll make it work at the end of this... It'll be weird I'm sure :p

It certainly will be. :p

Early impressions seem really strong.
very much looking forward to this! Love Dune and love what was starting to be created in the first film.

Well got "part 2" book for Friday the 1st of march. so i either watch part 1 on Thursday the day before or try to time it so that i watch part 1 and have it end 30-45 minutes before i go to watch part 2.

I rewatched Dune (2021) with the wife at the weekend. She has watched plenty of sci-fi movies with me over the years but doesn't read sci-fi and she was lost. Too much is unsaid, having read the book and watched the David Lynch film many times each I knew the plot and details. I'm fairly sure I enjoyed it so much more because I was filling in detail in my head that Villeneuve left unsaid or shown. Whereas my wife had to ask me to explain details several times.
Kind of agree. I'm a massive fan of Lynch's version, mainly due to the fact that I was working in a cinema when it was on so I saw it a fair few times. Its a bit like comparing a bit of music you've heard on Vinyl then you listen again on digital. I'm of the school that I prefer the Vinyl. I loved Villeneuve's take on Blade Runner, but disappointed with his Version of Dune even though the critics say otherwise.

Agreed. It's extremely competent and looks wonderful but for me it completely lacked any emotional depth which is strange considering how adept he was at hitting all those sorts of beats in BR2049.

He always gets compared to Nolan which I think is unfair because Villeneuve is far better imo. Nolan directs like an android. Perfect technique but no soul. I thought Dennis had it all and would nail Dune as a result, but alas...
Was never going to be easy, especially if you're familiar with the books. The world is just so expansive that it's almost impossible to get it all into 2, hell even 3 movies.

No pun intended, but I found the first film incredibly dry and unemotional. Think I’ll watch the sequel when it comes out on streaming rather than at the cinema. I’m a massive Villeneuve fan too.

I've got tickets for part 1 reshowing on Monday and part 2 on Wednesday.

Most hyped I've been about a film for a lonnnnng time...

I don't think part one is really awesome but it deserves to finish the story.

Tickets booked. Expecting like part one that half the film will end up on the cutting room floor, but I’m sure I’ll enjoy it for what it is.
