Dune: Prophecy

Now Penguin is finished this will be taking the Monday night viewing slot, looking forward to it to see if they've nailed the world from the films which the trailers made it look like they have.

Looks interesting. Is it based on material from the Books, or are the writers just riffing?
Mostly riffing I'm guessing. There were some truly horrifically bad books (fan fiction levels of badness) done by Brian Herbert (Frank's son) and Kevin J Anderson but they wouldn't be my first choice for canon. The original sequence is very light on the details of this period. Hopefully it's good an not too canon breaking.

I watched it on my phone :(
I'm on holiday at moment

They have gone with some of the AI storyline which I'm meh at and hopefully that's all dusted in the setting scenes.
But at the same time some very deep dive worm emporer stuff

The "baddy" is the same guy as raised by wolves which I need to uncouple lol

So far so good, game of thrones success mires everything these days and I'm hoping it can raise its head out of that feel.

Okay ish - will need to see how it goes.

Is the Emperor depicted as being so ordinary and powerless in the books ? Just like a normal Duke.

Main issue for me is Travis Fimmel is such a one dimension actor - only play one character. He was great in Vikings as his style suited that character 100% but very meh in everything else since.

Certainly has my interest. Not a big fan of Wizard school as a trope, and not sure I like mind burning powers if that is what it was; but the politicking is off to a good start, I like the visuals, and it feels like it could get good.

Decent enough start, got me interested enough to keep watching, shame they didn't lean into using the soundtrack from the films to add to this. Visually it's got enough of the Dune film feel to fit into the universe.
