E-On Ripp off!!!!!

I had Powergen do something similar back in the day, they increased my direct debit to £84 - well thats a lie, they said they were going to increase it to £84, they increased it to £840. Took me into my overdraft, certain bills didn't get paid on time, bank charges, massive fun and games. I'd say its an isolated incident but you hear about it all the time I'm afraid, tell them that they can stick their increase in direct debit where the sun doesnt shine.

Get one of these energy usage meters and check what is using your electricity if anything and see if the meter is ripping you off. I wonder how calibrated this meters are, me thinks they are calibrated on the electricity company's side.

when did you last change suppliers? are you on a standard tariff?

get on uswitch and enter your details. you can get £30 cashback from switching and will get a better deal.

never ever ever stay on a standard tariff.

also they have not billed you - they are changing your dd usually its based on usage but they may have changed your tariff

3 bed house here and pay £40 a month and am usually in credit when the bill comes. Something is definitely wrong with your bills.

Don't trust us witch or any other comparison site for fuel.

It's time consuming and hard work, but use a spreadsheet and find the tariffs of the companies website, although they hide them away so take a bit of looking.

Right for starters EON will give you one of the meters you attach to your main meter cable for nothing.

Secondly when was the last actual reading taken prior to this one, so you can get a true reference point. Hopefully you can get close to a calendar year and get a better average than you would get if you just took summer months. Take the units usage and report back...

had fun with EON today, tried to overpay our gas a few months back to get some cheap units but got caught out. The meter reader came and read the meter and reported back so it looked like we had used practically 100,000 gas units. A massive amount. Clearly the girl on the phone who I spoke to today knew what I was upto and said they would have to ignore my readings and go back to the last meter reading to apply the standard usage curve so we paid for the correct units at each price we have been charged.

Means I am practially £400 in credit though :)

Sooner the new pricing rules come in the better.

However getting into a webrage over it certainly won't solve the problem. If you take meter readings and it turns out you are using more electricity than you thought then get an energy meter and see what stuff is using what electricity. Most people are stunned when they actually work it out.

What do you guys suggest,
Take readings for a week and then calculate based on my daily and nightly usage compared to there per unit cost and the estimate for the whole year based on our average usage?

If it adds up to more or less then talk to them?

If i do that i will also read the mains i guess and find out if anything is drawing large amounts of elec.

We live in an apartment block which is managed by a private company which we rent from its a private residence.

We have lightsin the building on all day in the carpark and in the building i wonder if there is some weird way that is contributing to electricity costs.

If you havent got any actual readings, then use a week as a minimum. The longer the better though.
You need to find out your price tarrif and compare it to others. Don't use switch sites though, had bad experiences with them.
you really should sign up for an online account do its nice and easy to enter your own readings. But if your doing that, do some more effort and switch to the best tarrif/company.

Those lights should affect your useage. But again if we new actual readings we could see if your in the right ball park.

Hmmm I have readins from our bills but there quite vague,

Can you ask specificly so i know exactly what to put give you guys so you can compare.

Im asking some friends on other tarrifs/companies with much higher usages to provide me there usage and price per unit etc so that i can compare once i figure out mine.

I will go check this information and post backin this thread with it all in about 20 minutes guys,

Ill post what I can,

Also yes the house is entirely electricity Boiler etc. We usualy only need to turn it on for 10 or 20 mins in the day to get enough water well not even everyday really.

:mad:We are with E-on for our electricity,
Our monthly Direct debit is £127!

We use a fair bit but really and truely barely have anything runningin the house every switch is off when not being used just out of habbit not because were trying to save money.

We have the Tv on now and then mainly we just have the Laptop and main rig which are on maybe an hour a day at most lately which is barely anything elec wise. No heating house is well insulated.

Guess what?

They send me and my mom a mail today saying hello we would like to change your bill from £127 to £217 not based on our usage or anything of the like.

If it costs a 2 bed flat with 1 tv and a laptop and a rig which are the main electrical items in the house that draw the majority of electricity then how the hell can someone afford a proper house with a few tvs and what not.

Surely this cannot be right of them.

My mum knowsbetter about these things and shes dealing with it but....£217 a month they want to raise it to.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
So which is it?

yeah our house is the same about £100 a month for duel fuel and we live in a 3 bedroom house as well, I am always on to my wife about how much she uses the tumble dryer and other stuff but my pc runs 24/7 so unless you have the worlds most ineffient boiler it might be worth getting it checked out. As suggested ask Eon for one of there own meters and stick on your supply and see what reading you are getting. You can set them to display your actual cost per hour given your unit price so you can get how much you should be paying. Also if you have just moved in it might be that you have been under paying over the summer and now they want to get back your underpayment and since its winter almost you might find you are using much more and they want you to pay that also. This happened to me but it evens out over the course of the next year or so.
