E3 2018

I was about to pull the trigger on a One X and give my One to the kids, but with rumors of a new console coming potentially next year i think im going to hold off. I bought the Gamepass 6 months off Amazon, had 7 days left on my £1 trial too :) so its cost me i think £25 for 7 months games pass, with news that Exclusives like Forza Horizons 4 are going to be added to the pass its a no brainer, i almost bought State of Decay 2 the other day and thats on the pass too, and the kids love Sea of Thieves. Honestly that pass is wicked, the kids love the old school games on it.

I'll put my neck out on the line and bet that neither the xbox or PS4 successors will launch 2019.

There isnt a new console coming soon, MS E3 was all about how long term they are in with Xbox, talking about Dev studios, developing new IPs, and still investing in hardware etc. This was mostly about Phil telling everyone that Xbox is going no where.

Damn, I really look forward to TLOU 2 (even though a sequel wasn't needed) but I sure as hell hope that people don't think that all that's been shown in the trailer is 100% random generated outcomes based on specific situations/character position etc. with thousands of variables because judging by the outburst here, ND are regarded as magicians:p Well, either that or people didn't get terley's point. Or I didn't:p

Nobody is saying that, the point is that criticising the game for having scripted interactions with enemies etc is rather pointless, lots of games do it so I'm not sure why TLOU2 is suddenly coming under fire for seemingly doing it very, very well.

The problem is that people believe it to be representative of the game. For some reason (because it’s ND) everyone has lost all common sense.

To be fair, no one has criticised the game either. Just pointed out a lot of those environmental/enemy interactions were obviously scripted and had a fixed outcome that won't be entirely representative of the final game. I see nothing wrong with that, lots of devs do it. In fact, ND had showed some enemy interactions and mechanics in the E3 TLoU presentation that weren't in the final product.

And judging by the outcry here, yes, some people do seem to think that if the woman had been shot in the leg we'd have gotten a different but equally realistic outcome and that e.g. Ellie wouldn't have bounced off the car door had she been attacked differently because ND would have prepared hundreds of animations for these types of scenarios that would be somehow selected and calculated on the fly with a lot of variables in mind on something that has the specs not much beefier than a HTPC machine.

As I've said, some people being a bit delusional is not an issue at all:p I'm perfectly fine with clever scripting.

As for the game itself, I'm 100% sure ND will deliver a better game but almost equally sure the story won't be as good. That's simply because the first game carried an element of surprise and ended on such a perfect note that it'll be hard to replicate. There are already so many speculations of what will happen, something that the first game wasn't burdened with. ND have a hard task ahead of themselves not to overdo things wanting to surpass the original. Some people are bound to get disappointed. But I do have my hopes up.

Personally, I can't see this happening. Sony and Microsoft would have to pull something special out of AMD for the chips inside. Currently the One X has best of breed. I can only but assume the next chip will be Ryzen/Ryzen 2 based rather than an evolution of the current Jaguar chips and something special in the GPU area to make it 4k 60fps in 'most' AAA titles which in PC terms - a 1080ti is required. AMD haven't found the solution for 4k 60fps gaming in in Vega - will have to see what the refreshes bring so its going to be interesting...

If this is the idea, then next-gen consoles are going to be bigger boxes and a lot more expensive that's for sure.

Still, I believe based on games cited for next gen that the target will be 2020 imo.

Of course they choreograph the demos, ND even said so. They know what player behaviour will cause the reactions they want to show off, so they follow a script to show it all off. If you play it differently, you'll see different stuff, probably not as impressive.

Microsoft said that they were already deep into the development of their next console. Phil Spencer said this at the conference. Most have taken that to mean 2020 release. Whatever happens, MS have a great reputation with backwards compatibility so there shouldn't be any issue for anyone purchasing a new console now and then being able to still play Xbox One games in the future.

When I meant soon, I meant next year, and earliest end of 2020 release.

Finally watched the Cyberpunk 2077 E3 trailer, looks like its going to be awesome. I gather this will be on the current gen, I think I read somewhere that it is confirmed for PS4/XB1 by a dev.

Which if you believe the latest rumours is because AMD were concentrating on creating Navi for PS5 and Vega was shoved out the door too quick.

Do agree. Hopefully AMD can pull something out of the bag. I have shy'd away from PC gaming as the sheer expense of hardware is a cost I simply cannot justify. Although, PS5/Xbox One/2 will most likely be day one purchases.

Even though my PC is only a month old now, I know that I'm not going to invest further in to it hardware-wise and will return to consoles when the new ones come along. It has its benefits like customizable resolutions and framerates but I still prefer the plug and play nature of consoles.

Is it wrong that the only thing that really excited me was Farming Simulator 19's E3 trailer? :D

(John Deere equipment added!)
