E5200 Overclocking and performance comparison.

Will play with it over the weekend. Might see what I can pull out otherwise I'll be happy to stick with 3.8ghz or lower at a lower core voltage. Feels fast enough for my needs anyway.

great read :) enjoyed learning a hell of a lot of new stuff, i used to have a E2160 as my original stock cpu before my own build, i never imagined it could get too 3.6ghz! O.o i thought anything over 2.8-3 would make it explode lol

Using a Gigabyte P35-DS3L, previous E2160 struggled to get past 2.9GHz on that! Now this E5400 has had no issues reaching 3.8GHz although still not had a chance to push it further but at the mo happy with performance.

Yup done Linx, Prime95 & Orthos. Prefer Linx for some reason as within minutes you'll know if there are any issues. Left Prime for 24 hours, tested Orthos overnight.

You have to remember that the E2160 is also coming from a lot further behind the E5400 as well, 1.8Ghz compared to the E5400's 2.7Ghz. 2.9Ghz is still a good clock for a E2160. If you look at it another way they have both reached overclocks of 1.1Ghz each.
 
Still using my ~2 year old E5200 that did 4GHz. I have it clocked at 3.4GHz all the time now unless I'm running simulations.

Yep. 65nm and a bit hotter running too. The E2140 i used in the tests needed 1.472v for 3.6Ghz. I am only using 1.32v for 4.13Ghz on my Q9550. I would add it to the test but don't have the same components anymore so it would be uncomparable to the rest.
 
1 last F@H question;), re running time, I meant total time, weeks/months/yrs?
