E6*50 overclocking

@ Angelboy and Linwig

Thanks, thing is i have to go for what will be the best in the future as i cant aford to buy a new CPU every 6 months to a year. Therefore i feel quad core will be the best idea as games should eventually be quad core and therefore will have a performance boost over a duel core one would imagine.

A couple of quick points:

A CPU that is cooler than the surrounding ambient temperature simply isn't possible. It defies the laws of physics.

Running chips at frequencies that are only stable long enough for a SuperPI run or 2 mins of ORTHOS (lol) is a bit pointless really, isn't it?

Not trolling, but surely we should all be aiming for useable frequencies. I can run my C2D at 4.5Ghz+ for all the good it will do given it will only last minutes at that speed.

30mins of orthos is a lot longer than 2min, also Clone is running 4ghz wich has passed 4 hours+ orthos-age. An 8 hour run would be awesome ofc ;)

its not going to be a simple case of whack the fsb to 445 and bang! 4ghz good to go, theres other things that need to be adressed to get it stable.

i had difficulty at first even getting to the windows boot logo at 4g's going from that to 4gs pie and 30min orthos is a big step forwards - and im still convinced its my board rather than the chip - but maybe there is something else i can finetune... otherwise i might have to settle for 3.9 ect

aiming for a stable clock is my ultimate goal ofc but its an on going process to find outexactly what the max stable is. No-one here is spouting 4ghz stable!!!! but rather just shareing our experiances *so far*.

these chips are new and were still finding out what they are truly capable of.

Running mine @ 4.1ghz now can run Aquamark,3dmark 05/06 and play my game with no problems.

Newer driver from the EVGA Site.

I know the cpu temp is way out but my pc runs ok and that`s what i wanted.

These new chips do look tempting, but with an e6600 rock solid at 3.6, I wonder what benefits I'd get from an e6850 at 4.0 or even a q6600 at 3.6 (possibly).

I think that I may just wait for the 45nm refresh, then go for a quad. By that time there may be games that can use all 4 cores (Alan Wake, when it is finally released!)

Now if the rumours are true about the new 9800GTX being 2 x performance of the 8800GTX, then that would be something that would show real benefits, and would be money better spent :D

edit : clone, when I click on your 06 link, it just shows me my score.

Seems there are some poor clockers out there.

Perhaps like they say - lots of speed binning going on with the new revisions. Seems the 6850s are very good but the others are on a par with the current e6600's. I'm wondering now whether its worth the search for a quad G0 steeping.

so far they don't look to clock much better than the good B2's like mine.

i'm very reluctant to let mine go just yet ;) unless the Quad GO's are an easy 3.6+

Just installed my shinny new e6850, went straight to 3.6 on stock volts :)
just one prob none of my temp monitoring software seems to give the correct reading :(
I was hoping some one could tell me what i should be using to check temps on this chip?????????????
