yeah you should get an easy 4Ghz on stock volts.

So how fast do they do 1m superpi![]()
I'll grab a screenie once I'm back up and running on my new Vista (re)install.Damn! You guys must be a damn sight better at this than me! I can't get it to hold more than about 4.2 stable, 4.3 I managed to get mostly stable but seemingly on much higher volts and thus temps than you guys.
I have a Q822A435 jobby too but running on air with a Noctua NH-U12P CPU Cooler when I try for 4.3 it hits 70-72 under orthos, and I've only managed to get it moderately stable, I chickened out because of the temps :<
I imagine a few further tweaks in the BIOS and you'll be flying. Have you set everything manually in the BIOS or are your settings mainly on AUTO for starters?
What volts are you using to get 4.2?
Edit: Just seen your volts in your sig.
You sure your fan is seated correctly? I wouldnt expect 1.3v to generate such high temps. Also what thermal paste you using and have you applied it evenly and not used too much?

I'd get some AS5 on there.
I'm mainly on manual, I started out on mostly auto but been reading more and more and setting more and more of the settings to manual
I've dropped it to 4.2 @ something like 1.27v (it's running orthos blend atm so I don't really want to check, already had 11.5hrs stable on small FFTs)
I'm fairly sure it's seated ok, it feels solid and doesn't move much but my temps seem a bit high to me too. I'm using the noctua paste that came with the cooler and I don't think I've got too much on; I kept adding it in v small amounts where it wasn't getting to, to try and get good coverage.
If you think I could be having a fan problem what would you suggest? Better thermal compound? Reseat it? Because the cooler's supposed to be very good, so I was quite surprised I was getting such high temps.
Assumed I'd just reached the limit of what I could really do with my setup on air..
OCZ freeze IMO
who needs curing time? its long, and who knows if its ambient tempratuers that caus the 200+ hours cooler CPU, or ASV, but its not worth it to wait that long.Thats one badass rig you have there by the way!
It could also be that the heat henerated by your heavy duty graphics card is raising your case temps.
You could also try using some MX-2 instead of the Noctua paste.
What are your current load temps while running Orthos at 4.2ghz and 1.27v?
.

Hehe thanks!
It could be, but I've tweaked the fan on it to drop the temps down to 40-50 so I would have thought that would be ok. Case should have pretty good airflow, it's got 3 front fans drawing air in to it and and one on the roof and the back for pushing it out.
At 4.2 and 1.27ish (still from memory but I'll confirm it later) it peaked at 66 and averaged about 64 over 11 hrs.
I'll invest in some MX-2 or OCZ Freeze and try reseating my CPU fan I think.
My next project is to join the ranks of the water cooled, but that's realistically not going to be til after christmas and a lot of research!
Thanks for the advice all, much appreciated
Edit: probably daft question, but how can I measure my case temp? Is there a software monitoring thing or do I just need to stick a thermometer in there?![]()

No not a daft question at all. You can buy an LCD display from a specialist water cooling site for just a few quid which will monitor case temps - cant mention who due to the rules though.
ps. Since you are the proud owner of a bad boy Rampage Extreme you owe it to yourself to master your BIOS so you can max out your cpu. Head over to the XS forums and read up on this thread.![]()
I'll ask my mate google and see what he suggests
