Easyrider's Playon HD mini review thread.

lol!! fair play mate :D

Tbh have been tempted by my work mates Android phone he just got, does look damn good!

Decided against faffing around with the iPhone anyway and was considering either the Logitech Harmony 525 or 555 (the "one" looks a bit expnsive)

I know they both work with the Playon, just stuck on which one to go for (needs to work with Sky - the 525 has the coloured buttons I believe but the "one" does not??? and Xbox 360)

Decisions decisions!

The one is what I have.

The coloured buttons for sky are on the screen.

I love it :D

Am i correct in saying that these screens are YAMJ working on the ac ryan??? Do i just download it and apply it??

Sorry for the really thick question.. :)

You download the AC Ryan version from the website and run the exe.

You then point the mini to the indel file located in your media directory.

Very easy to do.

taken from the specs on the playon site

Dolby Digital AC3 5.1
(passthrough & downmix to stereo)
Dolby Digital Plus

DTS-HD High Resolution Audio

and no mention of TrueHD pass through, or even down mixing which was a problem with the units when i had one back in feb, no HD audio support

posted in july and still not released or a beta to be seen :(

taken from there forum,

Just a small update about the current official firmware update. Our developers are really working hard to fix the current issues that we got with the new SDK release. I can't give you a exact date, but I can tell you that we are expecting a internal test release around 9th of September. This will be a release focused most on bugs and critical errors found with new SDK. Not a exact date but gives you a idea of when to expect this release.

FYI,

and taken from what you posted also
which specific HD Audio will be additionally supported?… more details when the new firmware is released

so also seems like there not sure what they can get working

The Fact that there is support and development is good enough for me.

The tech guys actually listen to people.

Unlike other manufactures.

What's it's deinterlacing performance like? I've started ripping my DVDs straight into an MKV container (I know I don't need to with this) but obviously it means the player needs to deinterlace the MPEG2 video.

Is it any good or do you see jaggies and the like?

Why are you ripping DVD's into an MKV container?

can you guys with a playon give me some advice, maybe even a screeny of the folder structure i need to use ?

I have read the unit will format a hdd in its own way , 2 linux partitions and 1 ntfs (pain as ive already put 400 gb on my drive) but im trying to be proactive and arranging folders on my pc ready to move over when i get my ryan.

TIA

The mini doesn't have a HDD?

easy you've got experience with the ps3 and streaming all the different files you've gathered. how many would you say needed transcoded instead of remuxed to play properly and would you rather have one of these instead? i only ask because im looking to replace my Large Htpc in the living room and add blu-ray functionality as well, downsizing is the easy part but hassle free functionality may be a little more illusive and the popcorn hour c200 is the only all in one solution i can find but its on the large side as is the price.

The playon plays nearly everything I have thrown at it.

The only file it didn't play was raw mini DV footage

For the price its hard not to recommend.

Hey guys - just an update, since I updated various software and put my library on its very own Hard one (HDD), its been way better - had no issues at all, so pleased about that

After a few weeks or so of use definately recommended, very pleased with it now!

Soon I am going to start using YAMJ and the media art which looks really cool!

;)
