So people, im angered and im frustrated, but i'm still raging to play forza 2 (in my hands now), i waited until exams are over and for my bike to sell to play this game, but this event has took place rather unexpectedly...
I'm not sure if its worth another 250 quid buying from a retailer... but i dont want to get scammed again, maybe i should just give it up all together? or shall i still try to get a 360?

Sounds like you really want one so go for it if you can still afford it. Hope you can somehow get your money back, makes my blood boil seeing scumbags like that takings peoples hard earned cash and getting away with it  .

:) Here's my point of view on the matter, I hope the OP will find it useful

Several months ago I sold an xbox 360 premium and sold it & was paid via paypal. The buyer didn't have my address whatsoever and just trusted me despite me not having many feedback at the time.

My paypal account was unverified and therefore receiving about £200 put my account onto a limited status. I contacted paypal and they told me basically I had to complete verification and they would reactivate the account.

So I completed verification and waited over 2 months for them to reactivate my account, despite many phone calls to paypal it never happened and I couldn't get this £200 out.

I kept in contact with the buyer throughout and eventually told him to file a paypal claim against me to get his money back. I feel I was honest and open with him throughout.

Anyway shortly afterwards the Police came to visit me about this matter. Turns out that they'd been trying to find me for quite a while about this matter and the buyer had contacted the police early as he was suspicious.

The point I'm trying to make is this buyer obviously kicked up enough fuss for the police to contact my local constabulary and for them to then take the time to find me.

Needless to say, I was again open and honest with the police, gave them records of all emails, my paypal account with the money in, logs of all phone calls to paypal and eventually the police made paypal refund my buyer and no charge was made against me as I'd done nothing wrong.

So, to the OP - it CAN be done. Go to your local police station and really kick up a fuss. DO NOT take NO for an answer! Speak to the most senior person you can, if they don't take it seriously make an official complaint. Basically make enough noise and they WILL sort it out for you. The official term they told me that I was potentially being charged for was "obtaining goods by deception"

This guy you bought the xbox off has done this on a grand scale, if I can be hauled into the police station at 8.30pm on a Saturday evening over one Xbox then he should be locked up for a long time considering the amount of money he's stolen.

I really hope this gives you some hope in your fight against this scumbag. I cannot stand people who scam others and for the police to think that I'd done it upset me a lot. That's why I'm helping you now :)

Good luck, and keep us informed, if you want any more info or if I can be of anymore help please let me know.

Theres some good generally advice in this thread - mainly nearer the back...

I would definitely politely hound the police (both your local and his local station) - at the end of the day they are here to serve you, but unfortunately they usually need a kick up the bum to deal with such matters - looking at the details of his activities if this was happening in person (say a dodgy shop) they would usually deal with it - as soon as you say ebay/online they switch off :/...

this guy needs some physical beatings!

Why doesnt someone email him asking for a landline number to contact him as they would like to buy a joblot of GPS systems for their taxi company, and was wondering how many he had available etc, try and trick him. Say you want to send more money than hes charging but would like a few 'free gifts' sending along with the GPS, just to avoid paying x amount of tax, and that it could work out very well for both of you. He sounds fairly dumb, could fall for it? Get a landline or address and you'll be in business? Longshot but this 'boi' probably is a complete dunce, this is probably the greatest height he'll ever arise to in life..

Ok, just been to the bank,,, After a long wait i finally got to talk to someone, they said that not much can be done since it was bank transfer meaning the card wasn't used or something like that.. basically said it wasn't there problem at the time being, the person also told me there is a good chance you will get full refund at e bays expense since the guys got all the negative feedbacks..
I hope his not telling lies,

Marcus430, thanks for the long post there, maybe i should try calling the London police instead. No idea what they will do at this stage though, since apparently they need ebay or bank to ask and not an individual fool...

EDIT: and thanks for all the support and help, I truly appreciate it

Highly doubt that Ebay will refund you the money, seeing as you did it via a bank transfer and your only covered if you use Paypal. What i dont understand is why would you even attempt to do a bank transfer?? especially on ebay??. I wouldnt use anything other than paypal for ebay plus having a look at some of his listings....one thing that really really stands out in his listings is that he doesnt offer any sort of payment protection. Straight away dude i would have walked away from it, just because he was selling it cheap doesnt neccesarily mean its legit.

Sorry fella but you only have yourself to blame for this and i would be surprised if the police can be even remotely bothered to help you out..dont ya know they too busy chasing down immigrant terrorists:p.

Seriously though i dont hope it works out for you and u get some or all your money back:).

I've learnt my lesson now, i thought he was legit as his feed back were all positive at time, it was only the day after those negative feedbacks flooded his account, plus he has sold a 360 in the past for the same price with a positive feedback..... also to topup i have been a buyer paying by bank transfer several times which all went smoothly..
but i now know not to do it again.

i woulda said you payed into wrong acc. I did it before after i put wrong acc number into something, rang up the company and they rang up bank and got my money took back out otehr persons acc and put into mine :)

The Police will not get involved with credit card fraud now, nor will they bother with Ebay theft / fraud.

Few months back my Dad found that somebody was stealing equipment from work and was selling it on Ebay. We bought the stuff off Ebay, got the proof and went to the police. Ebay wouldn't do a damn thing, it was only when my Dad threatened legal action that Ebay suspended the guy for 3 months

The police weren't interested in the Ebay aspect, and he was only nailed for stealing from work (and not for selling stolen goods). Ebay only has a single police contact, so unless the police use that channel, you won't get anywhere.

It's disgraceful how Ebay willingly lets an horrific amount of fraud / piracy go unchecked. They probably don't care, they still get their percentage...
Ebay doesn't care.. and the police can't be bothered :(

Did you read the positive feedbacks?

I always read recent positive feedbacks, because dodgy sellers like to bulk up there ratings by either selling cheap goods, or 'selling' to fake accounts to bump their ratings.

There's no feasible way this person will get away with any of this.

Anybody that suddenly gets a massive number of bank transfers to their account will get flagged for money laundering or criminal activity for a start.

Pay him a 'visit' [/keyboardwarrior]

Seriously though eBay and PayPal are completely hopeless. They honestly couldn't care less about people who use their service.
This is most likely some kid who doesn't think twice about exploiting people for their hard earned money.

I've always ignored eBay unless it's for very minor purchases. The site is riddled with scammers.

Good luck getting your money back.
