Ebay screwing us again

The idea is not to screw sellers over. It is to try and make ebay a more attractive place to buy. Some people get really really upset by sellers asking for inflated postage fees. Since all sellers will be in the same boat I don't really see what the problem is. If you are not getting as much money as you want for these items then write a better advert or sell your stock elsewhere tbh.

Ok, an envelope.. 20p
postage for DVD .. 56p(ish)
recorded delivery ... 72p (because if you dont ebay screw u if the buyer says it didnt get there !)
fuel to get to the post office 2 miles down the road £18.52..

Large letter of dvd weight 2nd class = 42p all royal mail delivery is recorded. Walk to the post office, the vast majority of people don't live 2 miles away from a post office, so for 99.999999% of people it's fine.

Its not whether or not we get enough money its a matter that we shouldnt eat into our profits to post a FREE item, why should it be free? the post office charge to send it...

Ebay went down the pan long ago IMO. For example they don't even TRY and crackdown on fake iPod sales.

Why the hell would you buy an ipod on ebay anyway? The prices are almost always over inflated for second hand ipods on there. Plus, ipods break for fun. Much better to just buy an ipod from a shop.

Your statement is a sweeping generalisation however, you raise an interesting point that ebays popularity peaked two years ago and has now diminished hence they are introducing these new measures to try and woo buyers and sellers back.

I hope eBay goes down the toilet once these changes have been implemented. Punishing the honest sellers.

wtf?

If you were an honest seller you would not charge stupid amounts of money for shipping a DVD or Comic.

or to interpret your post differently why the hell do you want to punish the honest sellers anyway?

When selling things, I try to avoid eBay due to their different fees etc, just buy stuff off there now.
If my things don't sell on forums though, I go there for a last resort.

right so I sell a dvd for £10 - fees around 50p postage is £2 - I make £9.50 from my sale - good
when they bring in the new rules I sell the dvd for £10- have to pay about 50p in fees then pay £2 out of the leftovers for delivery leaving me with £7.50 - not good

ripped off tbh

Yes but there is every chance you will take more money home for your item because the buyer gets "free shipping" and may well bid up the item further because of this. I accept it is somewhat annoying but think you perhaps need to consider the big picture.

So its ok to post something FREE when it costs the seller about £1.50 to send it out their OWN money they might not even make much on the DVD? The seller could even end up negative profit.

You have a reciept when you post something, if it doesn't arrive you claim compensation.

yeh and you get a book of stamps... it happened to me loads before I insisted on recorded (read ebays t&c's it states that you must send it recorded, if not then you are liable to be robbed by buyers claiming stuff hasnt turned up)

you think people are going to pay over the odds because of free shipping?

doesn't happen in my experience

no, because EVERYONE will be offering free postage so theres no increase in you getting more... if anything you could have less chance if you use to offer low postage compared to others before

I have never gotten a book of stamps, if something goes missing I refund the buyer and get the value of the item back from royal mail when I claim compo.

It isn't tracked though, so you'd have a Paypal reversal on your hands if you can't prove it got there...

Hence why you refund them before claiming.

Arfur

True I suppose but if you have a solid feedback rating with evidence showing that you sell your comics or whatever as described and are swift and trustworthy you will get more money than the scummy competition.

I understand your point of view and I can see why it would be a pain but everyone else will be in the same boat as you. I take it you usually auction rather than do buy it now?

The other angle is that you may benefit because this rule might put off some of your competition from selling so you may even do better. Don't give up I reckon just adjust your business model accordingly and keep going. You can't fight ebay so your only other option is to sell your stock elsewhere.

People bid higher if they don't have an over inflated postage charge to take in to consideration in my experience. I never said anything about paying over the odds anyway.
