/edit - This is why Windows sucks. No shutdown via RDP, incorrect versions, etc etc. whinge whinge.

Yes.

Do not connect to a network, it will then allow you to create a local account and you can connect to a network later on.

Whats the issue with the drobo running plex? Every nas I have owned has an available app for plex or doesnt a nas have enough grunt. Im learning here :)

Next hurdle.

I neither have, nor want a Microsoft account.

On other versions of Windows, I can create a local account during install. It seems that this is no longer possible, I have to use an MS account.

Is there a way around this?

yes there is still local option in 1909. its bottom left somewhere on that screen. Or as above pull the network.

Yep
Disconnect ethernet cable/wifi

Edit
On every new build
They are making it harder to find
Offline accounts option
Not sure I like where its heading
Possibly compulsory online accounts?

It's DAS, not NAS.
Drobo DAS devices are not supported under Linux. Perfectly fine with Windows or MacOS but just not Linux.

Ahh I just googled it and had a look at the picture and just stupidly assumed it was a nas box. As I said every day is a school day.

A new build with 1909 didn’t ask me for a product key. It’s picked up the digital one again and I still can’t get rid of it.

/edit - Managed it. I gave it a very wrong phone number a few times and it let me create an offline account.
You can also drop network connection so it errors when you choose to create account.

I may have a solution - Adding/editing ei.cfg and pid.txt in /sources of the build stick. Trying again now.

You pick exactly what you want even if want to revert to earlier build number for
That site is so difficult to navigate. If I want to pick a vanilla Windows 10 1909 install iso, what do I select? There's nearly 80 options if I search for 1909 and they all seem to be updates. There don't seem to be any straightforward install iso files there.

And replying to myself, this didn't work either. With those two files in place, it loads Windows 10 Enterprise and won't allow me to downgrade to Pro.

May as well go 1909, latest version. Thanks @Vince

That file size looks large for just Pro though but it's certainly worth a try.

/edit - Next trick will be finding something suitable to write it to a USB stick. I just tried one which was supposed to work but the stick won't boot. Any specific suggestion please, with link?

It's direct from MS via OVS and if you read the special instructions it does say:

All Windows 10 Pro and Windows 10 Pro for Workstations product keys will activate Windows 10 Pro media, although only versions 1709 and newer can be used to activate Windows 10 Pro for Workstations edition.

So you should be all good. The size is because of the language packs bundled into the ovs versions I believe.

14 mins remain on download then ill wack it on google drive or something.

Enterprise appears to be entirely different media:

Appreciate your help here, hope I'm not keeping you up tonight. Any suggestion (with link) of what tool to write it to a USB stick?

Guess I am used to the site
So Don't find it hard to navigate

Will be off phone soon and back on pc and will look for you
They aren't iso files that's why you can get even the latest preview build
Without waiting for Microsoft to make isos available which takes a while
Normally
it will make your iso itself
Cumulative update is the confusing bit~probably translated
It means you will also get updates that have been released since the files were first put on their site
Similar to how Windows setup may ask do you want to look for updates while installing it
The other thing is version and build number
If you know both version and build number should get few results
If only know version number
You will get a lot of results
But you select the download and convert with aria2 option once found what you want
It walks you through it once found what you want
To use
I make a new folder on root of C drive
No spaces in folder name ~example call it xyz
Download or move/copy the small file you get to there
Run the aria2 file from that folder
And then it's automated
It turns it into an iso for you
Sounds complex but honestly it's not
And much more versatile than Windows usb tool once used to doing it
Be on pc in 15 minutes or so

I always create my own ISO files generated from ESD files found on MDL forums (am I allowed to mention them?). This way I know exactly what I am getting.

As soon as I saw your post #60, I knew you'd installed Home edition - to go from Home to Pro, you will need to reinstall.

In the media creation tool, you used to be able to choose which edition to download - it looks like this has changed now. Good old Microsoft!

If rufus doesn't work
It has failed me in the past
This has never failed me
Will make all sorts of isos boot able
Including putting multiple ones on one usb
Just scroll down to Windows single installer
