EE - 4G

Really???? What advice do you have for making such a phone call. What do I say? I can't really accuse them can I

It took quite a few calls as most t-mobile advisors pretended to not have a clue what I was talking about. You have to just keep trying until you get someone genuine who wants to help, they do exists. hehe

I had found out prior to making the calls that if you had bought a t-mobile contract from a 3rd party source like mobiles.co.uk etc then your data was limited to 3G speeds (it was in the small print apparently). 3G is technically only something like 384kb/s which is very slow in todays standards. Anything over that is not technically 3G its 3.5g which comes up as 3G+ then H then H+ (The plus might not work if your handset is not compatible with HSDPA21 or 42).

Anyway, I realised something was wrong straight away when I got the contract. It was very slow. So after googling I realised what was happening and began to hassle the crap out of t-mobile. I basically harassed them until I got it unlocked. To be honest they never actually admitted it but one day after a few phone calls and an e-mail I did a speed test and I could suddenly get 3-4meg. I knew there was more speed to be had but I accepted it and never got back in touch with them. That was with a HTC Sensation.

Now I have changed to EE and have a Galaxy Note 2 LTE. The speed increase is unbelievable, & i'm not talking about 4G here, thats even faster. At home were I could only get 3-4meg max on H, I now get about 13meg on H+. I'm pretty happy with that.

Downside is if you bought direct from t-mobile then this might not apply & there may be a different issue.

ah. Thanks for the info. Seeing as I get just under 3megs maybe I don't have that problem. My issue is how poor a signal I get and how 70% of the time I can't get an H connection. The 2 to 3megs I get when on H is ok enough I guess...

Ah I see, Does the One X not have HSDPA+ 21 or 42 support. You should see better speeds than that really but I'm not sure what the H+ coverage is like. Although I get more than 2 -3 meg when my phone displays 3G+.

Does EE have the same policy as T-Mob in terms of still being able to browse normal website when hitting your limits, and just not being able to stream and download large files?

I am not 100% but I'm pretty sure once you hit your limit on EE 4G contracts that's it. You would have to get an add on for the rest of the month.

I find physically locking the phone in network settings to the t mobile network I get better pings and download speeds, I find the orange network garbage so that's why, I'm in south London so I don't lose t mob signal much, obv when ya have no signal switch it to auto again.

EE offers new tariff for 4G and more data

EE has cut the prices of its 4G services as it positions itself against competitors set to launch rival services.

It is now offering a basic 4G service for £31 a month and a "super-user" service offering 20GB of data for £46 a month.

Though if you originally signed up on the £36 a month tariff you can't actually go down to the cheaper £31 a month one. :D

R C-J's view on the new prices - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-21148021

Still not cheap enough IMO, but it's going in the right way. 20GB is far more reasonable.
I think I would be happy at £35-40 on that tarrif if it was 30day contract. Certainly wouldn't sign up for several years when competiton is just a few months away now.

LOL of course they wont - amazed you even considered that :p

ps3ud0

It would have been great PR, especially if it was a free Kevin Bacon blu ray :p

Seems these new tariffs are SIM only. I was expecting them to adjust handset tariffs but guess they have already done that recently.

I expect the 4g price will change once the other networks get theirs up and running.

My mobile is three, at home I only get good speeds at night and my landline has been less than good recently. Got a 4g Mifi, mainly as it was 50% cheaper than buying the unit unlocked. At home.. 4g I get 3meg download and 20meg upload! Ok it's not the speeds one would expect but its very good for remote desktop, and general vpn use. The upload speed really helps.

My three phone at home is a bit crap when tethered so I figured I'd give EE a chance, rolling 30 day contract.

Come to London

and my mobile is doing just fine.. so my Mifi that isn't unlimited isn't going to much use at the moment!

Oh and in a hotel near heathrow not getting any 4g signal so not even bothering to do a speed test.. waste of bandwidth!
