EE - 4G

How do these prices compare to US LTE?

You can't compare to us. Us is stupidly expensive for anything mobile related, be it bog standard minutes, texts or data.

However one of the EU carriers, have said on average their 4g users use 15GB a month. Almost double the maximum tariff.
The price isn't really the issue. They just need to triple their data limits.

That is massively disappointing.

The 12 month £56 tariff is now £159.99 upfront when it was £19.99.

(24 * £46) + £19.99 = £1,123.99
(12 * 56) + £19.99 = £691.99
(12 * 56) + £159.99 = £831.99

I'm guessing the original 12 month tariff handset costs were a misprice?
You would have assumed that one of the EE people here would have spoken up about it if it was, more likely they realised they were just getting a lot of 12month contract customers cannabilising their 24month contract and decided to make it less attractive. Though lets not be too surprised when they say it was a misprice ;)

I was in the store ready to buy, I could just about justify the price but this pushes it further into it's a bad price territory. So yeah trust me, price is an issue.

Yep , especially when in 12 months they won't be able to have such a high profit margin on these tariffs.

You've got the reasoning spot on I think.

Yeah shame if that is indeed the case. I felt that the 12 month contracts were rather competitive, now we're most definitely back at "lol how much" :(. Definitely not considering this at all now.

That price looks like an issue to me regardless of data allowance!
Honestly, the standard contract in America is eye watering.

iphone 5 + 900 mins, 5 gig + unlimited SMS (you pay for this still, $20 a month) = $130 a month, $200 phone price, $36 "activation fee" (wtf indeed).

even though most things are roughly £1 = $1 over there (roughly), if we convert its still £81 a month. Makes even the UK look good ;)

They have massive networks they need to maintain. The UK is lucky in having a dense population.

It's more akin to having a tariff which covers the whole of Europe.

Then it fell back to 3G.

Don't worry, I'll just use the public WiFi instead.

I'm considering moving from Voda to EE, mostly because I find a lot of places I get no 3G signal. Vodafone offered me a good deal to stay, £16.40 a month for sim only 900 mins, 1Gb and unlimited texts.

I don't mind paying more for better coverage, 4G isn't even available near me yet. 1Gb data should be plenty for me, will they still be doing the 1Gb plan for £26 a month?

If you're specifically wanting better coverage then why not just go with T-Mobile/Orange? No point paying a premium for 4G if you can't even use it.

I'm on T-Mobile and get AWFUL coverage every single day between Waterloo and Wandsworth. They are crap. The only time in not on WIFI and I can barely get a G signal. Which ever provider has a stupid working signal on the train into waterloo from Windsor/Richmond, I'll switch to them.

So after 8 days over entering into a EE contract my phone (or SIM) finally works.

Firstly the shops attendant gave me the wrong SIM, giving me a TMobile SIM rather than a EE SIM. Then my number took 6 days, 7 phone calls and 2 visits to an EE store before it ported over, meaning my number was lost in limbo for that duration.

I think I'll be writing a very long complaints letter to EE over the next few days, expecting nothing less than several months free line rental in compensation.

On the plus side now it's working I'm extremely impressed, I live out in Staines near the edge of the London 4G radius. I only get 1 bar on 4G but the speed results are impressive:

Looking forward to seeing how quick it is next time I'm in central London with a good signal.

Who the **** sits in a pub and watches a TV program or a movie on their phone?!? This EE advert riles up no end!

They should put a disclaimer that Malcom and Julie could no longer use the internet for the rest of the month after watching their movies as they ran out of data allowance! ;D

Give over, it's only an advert but surely the bloke with the viking helm in a cupboard was a bit more unrealistic? It's a crappy advert but like the earlier poster I love the Bacon rolls finishing line. ;)

in latest Engadget article about 4G in London, they say that 3G got faster on tmobile.
Can anyone confirm that ?
certainly there is no improvement in terms on coverage and signal strength..

I certainly noticed that when I used my Orange SIM a month ago (so before 4G) it was faster than it ever used to be. It used to be capped, never beat 3 down and 0.37 up, but I got something like 10 down and 1.5 up.

Have to say I'm pretty impressed, and their 3G speeds when there's not LTE signal aren't too shabby either.
